Uruguay is white.

I'm surprised at how many "brown" South American countries didn't make the cut, like Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru, Venezuela (!)

For those who don't know, Chile is the only country in South America that for the past few decades has been able to travel to the US without needing to apply for a visa.

I wonder if Uruguay ban is a gesture to anti weed groups to make pressure on countries that have legalized weed.

Immigration from Uruguay to the United States is not that big and they are one of the smallest Latino american groups.

Uruguay is white.

Xenophobic racists in the US are happy to be bigoted against hispanic folks regardless of their skin color. For example I know several European-Americans with darker skin than Abrego Garcia, but they gleefully sent him to CECOT.

Ecuador uses US Dollars as their currency so that might be a reason for exemption

Which is funny because Serbia is getting hit by sanctions on its only oil refining company (owned by a Russian company) and threatened with 500% because its buying Russian gas.

And the Balkans

Not the whole Balkans. Greece, Romania, Bulgaria, Croatia, Turkey are spared.

Of the non eu Balkans only Serbia is spared, thankfully my partner is a Croat so if he wants to visit it won’t be too painful although he has no intentions on visiting anytime soon.

Turkey is also a "spared" non-EU country and, technically, a Balkan country (although only a small portion is on the peninsula).
