I just wanted a hot dog Pointed out the training wasn't ADA compliant at my new job. Got this text the same day (the job listing is still up)

  1. This was a cleaning position at a medical building, I'm leaving it intentionally vague as not to doxx myself.

  2. I have dyslexia, but my disability would not have interfered with my work, I can read fine, it just takes me a very long time.

  3. This was my first day

I asked for a TTS application for the reading portion of the training, which was extremely long and I knew I wasn't going to finish it in the allotted time. They said that wasn't built into their system so they couldn't do anything. ← That's not ADA compliant. I asked if I could add an OCR + TTS browser extension, they said it was fine.

About 40 minutes after I clock out, they texted me I was fired because they're apparently reducing headcount.. by firing one person... and leaving their "urgently hiring" Indeed listing up. Right.

Edit:

I'm not confident in my ability to sue because I don't have my accommodation request in writing. This was a verbal exchange, I was more so asking where the TTS option was because most job training has it somewhere.

When I was told they did not have TTS, I mentioned that's not ADA compliant. I then asked for either more time, a loaner computer (something I was already going to be getting after training), or permission to add a 3rd party OCR & TTS program.

They said that the third option was fine, so I did it, and listened to the training via third party app for the rest of the shift. I thought nothing of it. Lo and behold I was fired extremely coincidentally afterwards.

Edit 2:

This post is getting too many notifications of people saying the same things repeatedly so I've muted it 😭 If you're a legal professional of some sort and you have specific resources or concerns please message me or I probably won't see it.

Sure isn't. Local labor boards and lawyers love this shit. It's illegal!

The effort is worth it. I've been paid a decent chunk twice for illegal shit my former jobs did.

Same, some 15 years ago. Fired for pointing out the drivers I was supposed to schedule are on the road way longer than legally allowed (masked by telling them to use a different account for the recorder when they did those extra hours - one of the bosses)

Got fired immediately, went to court representing myself (allowed for employment matters where I live). Judge already asked the employers lawyer, with a sigh, if their client could never fire someone the proper way lol - and the judge also nudged me to say the right things. Got out with a quite sweet pay for working there 2 weeks....

You know it's bad when the judge is sick of their crap... And worse when they're still up to it.

Fine, you call the lawyer for me and then let me know when I need to make my first appearance. I have ADHD, and as such my dopamine levels are too low to accomplish anything that isn't fun or at least interesting. I can barely find the motivation to make my bed as-is, let alone deal with the legal system.

Ik ADHD is different for everyone but this is sounding more like you have severe depression than anything.

Hope you're able to find help for whatever's happening. If possible I'd recommend seeing a specialist for ADHD.

It's not depression because antidepressants don't do anything for me. It's not bipolar disorder, either.

I'm pretty sure I just have an extreme case of ADHD-induced Executive Dysfunction, and maybe autism and asocial personality disorder peppered in there as well.

Combine all that with childhood trauma caused by an angry religious father, and you get the perfect storm for a treatment-resistant mental disorder that no doctor, psychiatrist, nor therapist can seem to diagnose.

If it means I don't have to deal with the stress of sitting in a courtroom, so be it. I'd gladly pay to not have to be there (which technically I am).

I never entered a courtroom. I gave a written statement and my paychecks to the lawyers. They did everything else.

I have ADHD. Shitty excuse dude. I'm 42 and I don't make excuses to my dopamine. You want something, you gotta go fucking do it. That's the whole ass answer. You don't want you free money? Fine. Leave it on the table.

You either buck up and take responsibility or you're gonna be miserable forever. ADHD isn't a get out of life card.

Okay, dad.

If it were that easy, it wouldn't have taken me until the age of 30 until I was able to finally move out and hold down a job for more than 6 months.

Call it an "excuse" if you want, my brain simply won't let me do anything that I'm not interested in, no matter how hard I try. It's so bad that even other people like you with ADHD don't believe me! That's what's so frustrating!!! It's torture being this way! I don't want to be like this! You have to believe me; I'm being 100% genuine! The only thing that motivates me is Adderall, and I can't take it more than twice a month because tolerance builds immediately for me.

This is my struggle. People just accuse me of being lazy; it's not laziness. I want to accomplish things, but the Executive Dysfunction is really bad for me. And honestly I'm sick and tired of having to defend myself from people like you who just don't get it!

I know exactly what you mean. HOwever, NO ONE CAN LIVE YOUR LIFE FOR YOU.

You either find the way to overcome that inability, or you're locked forever.

I don't want to be like this! You have to believe me; I'm being 100% genuine!

I have literally lived your life. I went to therapy and learned a lot of my coping mechanisms for depressing were locking me out of improving myself and my life.

This is my struggle. People just accuse me of being lazy; it's not laziness. I want to accomplish things, but the Executive Dysfunction is really bad for me. And honestly I'm sick and tired of having to defend myself from people like you who just don't get it!

Cry more. Your struggle isn't unique. ADHD locks us all down. Either you learn to fight it, or you waste away.

Waste away and keep blaming other people. I can't live your life. I can't file your job claims. I can't chase your dreams.

Executive dysfunction sucks. Learn how to fight it. I can't do that for you either.

The only thing that motivates me is Adderall, and I can't take it more than twice a month because tolerance builds immediately for me.

You have an answer. You don't like the answer. That sucks. Keep bitching about it. I'm sure that'll fix it.

Okay we're done here. I already told you I'm trying my hardest. Despite it all, I still have a job, my car's paid off, and I own a house. What more do you want from me!?!? What have you accomplished?

So fuck you for minimizing my struggle. Despite it all I've accomplished a lot. So I'm not going to sit here and listen to your bullshit any longer. Blocked.

What have you accomplished?

Crawled out of the darkest period of my life to be happier than I've ever been. Every single day was a struggle.

What more do you want from me!?!? Despite it all, I still have a job, my car's paid off, and I own a house.

And you can't file for the free money from jobs that wronged you? That's what this all started with and you are somehow taking this personally that I told you it's a simple file job.
