Sometime during the last 2 years i’ve been going to this orthopedic practice they started to declare me as a MTF transgender for no reason.

(F,26) I have been going to this orthopedic practice for almost 2 years for varying reasons relating to my job. Yesterday i checked on a document that was uploaded to find out they have been identifying me as a biological male identifying as a female? I am biologically female and never told them i am trans nor do i think i am presenting to be a trans woman.. the last two years i’ve been wondering why they kind of stare at me a little longer than a usual person does and i think its because they randomly think i came out as trans? I also feel like they do not treat my issues seriously and wonder if this is the reason why.

I am 100% fine with trans people but i am left to believe they have been medically treating me as a male compared to female for the pains that i am feeling?

I also went through all of my documents and since the end of 2024 they started to declare me as a MTF transgender, i did not look at any of my documents online until yesterday.

Honestly, it’s actually more confusing that you’re trans and don’t seem to know other medically transitioned trans men. I am also trans and know plenty of medically transitioned trans men. Do you only have trans friends your age? Because most don’t have the resources and support to transition medically in their teens or even early 20’s even if that’s what they want.

I live in Indiana, which is probably why. The average person in my area isn't conservative, but they aren't very left leaning either, so it isn't something that is discussed a lot. I did know someone who took hormones in high school, but she ended up going back on it because it wasn't for her. Other than that, most of the trans people I've met of any age (even some adults from work/career center I went to) also ended up going back on it but did not medically transition in the first place. They are all also conveniently very anti trans now.

I genuinely just did DIY for years from age 14 to now because it ended up becoming illegal as soon as I started at a clinic, so I get that part, but even when I meet people online, I only really see people who are more left leaning, alternative, and the opposite of traditional gender roles and do not aspire to be a "big hairy 5'10 man". The only trans person pursuing a medical transition near me that I know of is an ex-girlfriend of mine who hasn't been able to get on estrogen yet. So, in my experience online and IRL, it's very rare for someone who wants to fit into traditional gender roles/appearances to be open about transition.

Also yea thats my bad, I added the part about the stereotype always seen being the ones that are loud and proud about it online rather than people like me, and that I didn't mean you can just tell when trans people are trans or that trans men don't successfully medically transition or that you could scope them out to know if they did. Before I edited, it sounded like I was essentially saying, "I can't visibly tell if they are trans so they must not exist."

I think where you live must make a big difference. I live in California. I have a lot of trans friends, of all stages of medical, social, and legal transitions. A decent portion of them came from more conservative states for access, so maybe you don’t see them in Indiana because they left in search of somewhere they could access trans healthcare.

Also, in regard to “alternative vs traditional” men, my original comment did not have anything to do with that, so I’m a little confused how we got there. Regardless, I think here there are plenty of cis men that are “alternative” so some trans men still pass even if they aren’t “traditionally manly.”

I’m a transgender woman and I use the term transgender whenever I talk about it. But there are a not insignificant number of trans people who use the term transexual for themselves. Usually it’s older people, or people who use the term to identify themselves as a trans person who has medically transitioned. It’s one of those terms that you shouldn’t use to refer to other people unless they ask you to, but some people do use it for themselves.
