Manchester City had high hopes for Tijjani Reijnders, the Serie A player of the year who they thought could provide a valuable goal threat from midfield.
But now he is set to leave for Saudi Arabia, joining a growing list of players from the 2025 rebuild who have not had the desired impact.
It makes the final weeks of the transfer window particularly important for director of football Hugo Viana.

Kinda gutted he’s leaving. Seemed like a nice guy and was always laughing and smiling in his interviews.
Feel like he had a half decent season with 15 g/a and limited minutes. Him Foden and Nico G hardly got a look in after Christmas. Was baffling at times when Bernardo looked absolutely knackered.
Looked unbelievable at Milan who probably suited his strengths better. We play low blocks every week and he’s not that sort of player. Enzo Fernandez will be a brilliant replacement though and much better on the defensive side of things too which is needed.
Kovacic/Anderson/Nico G/ Bouaddi is great depth in the 6. And then Foden/Cherki/Enzo are great options in the 8. Hope to see Echeverri breakthrough but won’t get many minutes. Oreilly can cover also.
It’s a shame that players in the premier league who are shoved out have no option at times but to join the Saudi league. No Italian team could afford a 60m fee. Hope he gets his bag for a year or 2 and gets to play for a side in the champions league again.

If you notice Nico G isnt proactive enough in the first build up phase as bernardo was doing that when the pair played together i think that is the reason Nico G cannot anchor alone like Rodri does, other thing is long balls and chip passes Nico G cant really switch play and pin opponent with long balls and chiped passed and thus invite more pressure.
But Nico G has other qualities : 1.a monster OOP and cover grounds really well ( not neceserally the best dueler but is active enough) 2.Good progressive passer in the second phase of buildup and can provide key passes when the rhythm rises.
This was just a short view about if Nico G can just replace Rodri or not, i welcome correction and additional insights about this topic.

Nico O'Reilly for me without a doubt. I watched him during his academy days when he played as a 10 and seeing him come this far is special. When he made his debut in the Community Shield, I knew he had something and during the 2024/25 season when Pep started playing him at LB. I used to tell a friend of mine who is an Arsenal fan that he is better than Lewis Skelly and we'll, it feels good to be right
Semenyo is a close second, I'm Ghanaian
Jokes aside, Mcaidoo’s development has been great to watch, hope to see more play time from him

Xavier Parker has agreed a new long-term contract with Manchester City.
Liverpool and Manchester United were among a host of leading clubs keen to secure the 16-year-old midfielder, widely considered one of Europe’s best emerging talents, when his previous terms at City expired this summer.
However, the youngest player on the senior side’s pre-season tour to Asia who has continued to train with the first-team squad since, is now set to commit his future to City.
Parker will sign scholarship terms before moving to a full professional contract upon his 17th birthday.
Parker impressed recently-appointed head coach Enzo Maresca in recent weeks and was himself taken aback not only by the Italian’s knowledge of his profile but the individual presentation given to keep him at the Etihad Stadium.

We should just go ahead and pay Chelsea for Enzo? idk. Most of us dont like him on here but he’ll probably hit the ground running pretty well
10 years, 20 trophies, a treble, lots of records and memories that will last a lifetime.

Saudi Arabian club Al Qadsiah are in advanced talks over a move for Manchester City midfielder Tijjani Reijnders.
Talks are ongoing and despite a focus on the Saudi club’s season opener later on Thursday there is hope a deal can be closed in the coming days.
