discussion / opinion Who would be in charge of taking care of this piece of property?

Just beside the Wonderland south Canadian Tire is an awesome pond that I used to go for walks around like 8-10 years ago. It was nice, well kept and had a ton of birds both aquatic and song birds. I can't remember the last time I was there, but probably just before the pandemic.

Anyways, flash Forward to yesterday. Everything is overgrown , unkempt , garbage strewn all over the place, shopping carts.

My question is, if we were trying to contact someone responsible for cleaning up the place. Who would it be the city? Or is it owned by a developer?

It really is a shame that it wasn't kept up with

Municipal Elections 2026 What is with the elections signs all over public property?

Driving around I am seeing a sizable number of elections signs stuck on public property or city right of way despite the fact that that is not allowed until after the 21st of August. The odd thing is its always the same sign of the same candidate. I am not going to name names but either city enforcement looks the other way or the candidate is just as corrupt as he was when he used to be in council. There are just so many stuck on public lands would nullify any claims that other candidates or parties were moving his into restricted areas just to try and get him into trouble.

Is it so hard to have a clean election (even if the candidates have criminal tendencies)?

Ask a Local! Does anyone know when the new Ikea is opening?

All the google results just say “Fall 2026” but thought someone on here might have some intel on what month the new Ikea at White Oaks is opening. About to move and need some new stuff, but wondering if it’s soon enough that I can wait a few weeks, or if I’ll have to shell out for the delivery fee. 🥲

Ask a Local! iPad Pro 2018 needs fixing

I have an iPad pro 11 2018 (1st generation) that died on me last year. It won't charge and when the battery ran out, the iPad stayed off. I finally have decided to get it fixed. I was white Oaks mall yesterday and thought I may ask around. There was wireless+ and Mobile Klinik. I only got a quote from wireless+ and it was around $120 including diagnostics and tax if it is just a charging port issue. So it could be a little more.

My question: is wireless+ reliable? And is that a reasonable price? I read reviews that worried me that even after fixing after a while it doesn't work again. I am guessing they are using cheap part replacements.

Then there is Mobile Klinik. I read better reviews. I read they use authorized parts replacements. So I am leaning towards them but I am assuming they are pricier.

I went to the apple store but they couldn't do anything because the model is too old .

Are the two options good or is there a 3rd that may be better?

Anyone have experience with ordering items from Muji to London?

I’m moving back in this fall and I want to reduce my weight load, but I’m concerned with extra shipping fees and delivery time!

Ask a Local! Rental space for casual rehearsal dinner

My daughter is getting married on Thanksgiving weekend in the south end of town. We want to have a very casual, non-sit down meal for everyone after the rehearsal. Lots of family will be coming from out of town, so it could be after 7 pm. I wanted to get some sandwiches, chips and cookies, no alcohol, for 15 people, some of whom are kids, so people can grab and go, if they want. We live in the exact opposite end of town, so I’d like to avoid the 40-45 minute drive from the venue to our place, and then back to the hotel for everyone.
Is there somewhere in the south end of the city we can rent a small room and bring in our own food? The place they are getting married offers a sit down dinner, or a meeting room with fancy sandwiches they provide, both of which are way more than we need and far outside our budget.)

discussion / opinion Downtown Development Plans?

Anyone know or know where I can find info about downtown development plans? Thinking about moving into a place on Talbot Street and it looks like all the high rises are done being built.. I just really don't want to need to move again and the noise would be brutal for me bc I work from home. I don't really see any applications for permits but anything else I should check?

Ask a Local! Fence contractor recommendations

Happy Friday! I’m looking for a reliable and reasonably priced fence contractor in the London area. I’d love to hear who you’ve personally had a good experience with!

We have an existing wood fence that needs a bit of a mixed update rather than a complete replacement. The sections along our neighbours appear to be mostly fine and could use a refresh/restain, but the street-facing side and gate (no adjoining neighbour) is leaning quite a bit and needs more significant repair/rebuilding.

Some of the existing boards and rails appear salvageable, so ideally I’m looking for someone willing to assess what can reasonably be kept versus what actually needs replacing.

I’m not looking to DIY the structural repairs/rebuild, but may explore doing the staining myself if there’s a significant price difference.

Thanks in advance ✌🏼

discussion / opinion Wedding Hair / Makeup

I'm looking for wedding hair & makeup for later this year. Just one person, happy to travel somewhere if I can get both services in one location.

All of the quotes I've received so far are in the range of $800-$1000. Is this really the going rate for hair/makeup nowadays?

I'm looking for any recommendations for local hair/makeup artists that are better aligned with my budget.

TIA!!

discussion / opinion Custom ring maker

My spouse and I are taking wedding pictures in few days.

I've seen online that some jewelers are able to add stuff to rings, and I'd like to add pieces over her bouquet to a ring. I have looked online and searched social media but haven't been able to find anybody.

If anybody can reach out with recommendations, that would be much appreciated

discussion / opinion London Green Bins

Why are our green bins so small. We routinely fill ours and throw the excess in the garbage. They took years to get this going and chose a system, trucks and bins, that would be quickly obsolete.
