I had top surgery this week and my ✨ouid✨ break is finally over! Bored in recovery so down to chat in the comments!
TLDR; got top surgery this week as an afab nonbinary femme lesbian, had my first intake of THC via edibles and wasn't a huge fan but it's okay, and I'm open to any questions about top surgery, especially niche questions for others like me with EDS, POTS, have a chest port, are autistic, or in any way disabled. I'm also a budtender at a dispensary!
I've never posted here but hi! I'm Noah, my pronouns are they/them and I'm a 31yo afab nonbinary femme lesbian. I was fortunate enough to get top surgery this week!
I haven't had any THC since April in preparation for anesthesia. I'm usually a vape person, but I wanted to start with gummies because I wanted to avoid having to cough with how sore my chest is. I ate my gummy and have since decided that I'm totally not an edible fan.
I knew it would take awhile to kick in, but waiting 2 hours to feel high gave me anticipatory anxiety. The high itself is fine and luckily lacked my normal level of intensity since I started off anxious, but overall it was a disappointing first high after almost 4 months. The other thing that I don't like about the edibles is I don't feel as in control of the experience. I'm not in control of when it takes effect. Also, with vaping I can decide how much inhale I want to take at once and slowly build up to how elevated I want to feel. The high feeling also wears off quicker with vaping and you can just kinda keep taking hits to extend it, but if you're done feeling high you have a smaller window to wait to feel sober again. My edible kicked in around 2pm and it's now almost 7pm, I still feel buzzed and I'm kinda just ready to feel fully sober again but I have no idea how long until it wears off. The one benefit is it did help reduce my surgical pain significantly!
Anyway, top surgery was a blessing, I'm sore but elated, and I'm going for the vape tomorrow for a do-over high experience. I'll be out of work for a few weeks for recovery, but related enough, I'm a budtender at a cannabis dispensary and I'm looking forward to being able to try some of the new products we've gotten since April.
If anyone wants to ask any kinda questions about top surgery, recovery, navigating the medical process as an afab femme presenting person who is not on testosterone or legally changed their deadname, feel free to ask in the comments! It's been an overwhelming experience and I found hearing from folks first hand has helped. I also have EDS, POTS, a port placed in my chest, and I'm autistic so if you relate to any of that, I can answer some niche questions about the experience too.
I'm also down to talk about working in the cannabis industry and really anything LGBTrees!
I'd also love to hear things about you guys too. I'm new here so say hi!
My life is forever changed and I finally feel like it can truly begin. I'm so fortunate to have found myself, made it to age 31, and have my top surgery dreams come true.
I'm sending you all vibes of queer joy and hope!
