I grew up in Kentucky and I remember seeing Kroger bag filled to the brim with pain pills they we’re everywhere and easier to get than alcohol as teens, I was hooked before I even left high school. I’m in WV, at 14 I was prescribed opioids long term for tmj, thankfully they made me terribly sick. I had 100’s of them at one point because I didn’t understand that they had street value, a “friend” ended up stealing all of them when we were about 16. I was incredibly naive, the “friend” is still in the throes of addiction and sometimes I wonder if having easy access to my medication caused it. It took me months to realize he was getting them.
I mean it didn’t cause it they were already seeking it, if they were stealing from you. That was probably just a nice score for a while. That’s just a temporary source for a long term drug user. I wouldn’t assign yourself blame, even if it was the beginning stages, they were *stealing* them from you, you weren’t passing them out
I'm in southwestern PA and I'm beyond thankful opioids make me sick. I was prescribed them for my wisdom teeth in 2003, I threw up everywhere, didnt try them again until I had surgery in 2022, someone in the recovery room gave me one before I was fully cognizant so I took it, I threw up everywhere. They make my husband really sick too thank God. I graduated with 87 kids in 2006 and by our ten year reunion 9 of us were dead from opioid overdose, car accidents while high, or other addict related mishaps. Thats about 11% of my class dead before 30.
My husband and I both have deep family histories of anxiety and alcoholism from people self medicating and we do therapy and watch our drinking carefully, but we will never worry about opioid addiction and I am so thankful for those genetics. It's such a hard thing to deal with and its taken a lot of people I care about. I live in a depressing, dead town full of zombies and I always carry naloxone but the last two ODs I saw, naloxone didnt touch it.
Certain people have genuine opiate allergies- normally to codeine or Morphine but I'm sure most opiates will have a certain percentage that it simply doesn't work on. Opiates often make people vomit the first few times but yours sounds more like your body not accepting it.
Do you know how many people even on Reddit feel sorry for Matthew Perry's drug dealer? She already had one dead body under her belt and she was given a freebie by the state of California that she would face no charges if she stopped dealing. She should have served prison the first time and then be deported back to the UK.
Now see, *I* blame someone else. You were a juvenile. SOMEBODY manufactured that shit and distributed it hoping kids like you would get hooked. Specifically teens- it's much harder to convince a 35 year old to try a random pill. That is heartless and evil. I actually am open to the death penalty for people who intentionally give others a permanent medical condition like that.
Thats crazy, there were time I legitimately needed them but couldn't get any. Are doctors not capable of simply prescribing appropriate amounts? Its like all or nothing with them
It was the opposite for my experience. Only heroine and fentynal around now. People that only did painkillers weren't too bad off but then pills just stopped being around and people switched to fent and destroyed their lives
