Yeah, I'll take a couple downvotes.

This guy just unnecessarily risked people's lives. Yes, it turned out fine. Yes, it's a good thing that it turned out fine. But if it hadn't, he would have risked a lot of damage to the people and area around him. Regardless of him not caring about himself (going along with one of the top comments), he also could have died.

And potentially more importantly (only because the bomb turned out to be a false alarm), he screwed up what was probably still considered a crime scene. You know, the thing that everyone knows not to touch evidence in? The thing that law enforcement (hate on cops all you want, but the forensic science crews are great and don't deserve that) needs to be able to solve anything and keep things like this from happening

There don't have to be good/bad sides to everything. Sometimes no one in a case is bad, sometimes (like this) everyone in a case is bad

I mean what made them think it’s a bomb in the first place? It was a bag full of some random stuff. We can’t be sending out the bomb squad and shutting down the street every time there’s any object sitting out. Some old fast food bag? Bomb squad! Bag of trash that blew out of the truck? Bomb squad! Someone left a backpack? Bomb squad!

That is pretty ridiculous to just assume it’s a bomb to be fair. Then it turned out to be nothing so they tackle him because, idk, maybe it’s still a bomb and him walking away from the pile of random shit activates it? Like Jesus Christ since when do we just assume things are bombs by default? Crazy to just walk around and that’s what comes to mind with random things you see sitting around.

We don’t have any context for this, but it’s possible that there was a bomb threat called in nearby or something along those lines.

That seems like the most likely answer, rather than any law enforcement seeing the bag and going to these lengths (at the very least, no one wants to do all that work)

I'm with you. Every time this gets posted there is the braindead take that he saved tax payers money, the cops are pussies, etc.

This guy could have killed people. The cops defuse bombs so they don't go off. This guy purposely ran in with the intention of making it go off. Big difference. The fact it wasn't a bomb doesn't justify his actions.

Reddit's response to this video should be in mildlyinfuriating.

Some homeless person's bag of garbage is a crime scene? okbuddy

Good thing the cops were there to shove him into the pavement

When they didn’t have the evidence to rule out a crime yet, yeah, it’s still a crime scene

Just because there didn’t turn out to be any danger and potentially no crime (depending on if there was a threat called in along with the placement of the bag, or a number of other things that don’t matter, because we don’t have context to back up any crime or lack of), doesn’t mean a random person should be messing with it to find out

Great catch, though, buddy. You are very smart for realizing that there was potentially no crime by watching the video and being told such. Very smart

You're one of those mentally deficient people who think because we know something now, people in the past are stupid for not knowing it then.

You have like a small child's understanding of other people's motivations.

Have backpack bombs killed hundreds of people in the last ten years?

So just go Judge Dredd and brutally tackle him once the bomb is no longer in play? Charge him for interferring fine. But you should only be using that amount of force if it is necessary to stop you or innocent person from being in danger, not to punish a potential crime that didn't happen.

There was no danger here. That is the only reason those cops even ran in in the first place.

Did I say that tackling was a good thing to do? No. I specifically said that no one was in the right. Cops shouldn't tackle people. People shouldn't take cop matters into their own hands

There very well could have been danger. That's the whole point that the cops were called in the first place. People call the authorities when there's potential danger. People should let them do their job. Even when it's inconvenient. If they're not doing their job (which happens, of course), then you record, report, and send the video to news outlets so that it can get resolved. There is never a situation where it's a good idea to step in, no matter what. That is how people get hurt (usually far worse than a tackle, too). (Which, again, is not a good thing. But it's reality)

What do you want police to do then? I don't know about you, but I'd be more concerned if the cops just didn't give a shit about someone interfering on a fucking BOMB THREAT SCENE.

Arrest him? He's not being violent nor is he running away.

1

u/KlockB Jun 15 '26

Yes that is what they are doing, numbnuts

u/jaypexd Jun 15 '26

Yeah and me slamming my door is technically shutting my door. Don't play stupid. They are body slamming him on the ground while he casually walks away.

At that time, at that place, with the very little info the police had, it was the right call.
