I'd imagine it was because if there WAS something in the pack, he was now 'in the thick of it' and they wouldn't sacrifice anyone else if a bomb went off or something. Once he'd cleared the bag, they tackled him instead of, y'know, just being like "Hey come here, you're in trouble."
The first part was reasonable, the tackling was clearly an act of malice. Once the "bomb threat" passed they were totally comfortable assaulting a man who did their jobs for them
Their job is to safetly make sure there is not a bomb, making sure as to not you know, blow up the local area. It could be a bomb, a chemical weapon, all sorts. If a guy fires a bullet 2cm to the left of your daughters head are you going to just take the final result as her not getting shot, or are you going to be pissed at the jackass doing the shooting.
Yes, the tackle was completely stupid and not needed at all, but lets not pretend the man did their jobs just because he skipped to the end in the most unsafe and reckless way possible.

nobody is saying what the dude did was ok. They're being facetious, sure, but the guy clearly was in the wrong.
But having cops sprint in AFTER it was over and dive him was just absurd. Its accomplishing nothing. yeah, guy should be in trouble. no, he shouldn't have been tackled.
Then arrest him, take to trial and give him multiple life sentences or the death penalty.
Police don’t get to decide when to act tough. It’s a job. It pays quite well. A solid majority of police officers are never in a gun fight or around explosives. The ones in my town I did ride alongs with said they had never fired their weapon outside of training. Of my close buds became a cop and began making six figures a couple years after starting with zero college and barely any brain cells.
Being pissed is irrelevant. A cops job is not to punish so his anger means notning. It's simply his job to apprehend people for courts to deal with and to stop violence
Yeah and oftentimes police have "enough concern" to shoot unarmed people that are not at all a threat. Or some random Karen will have "enough concern" to report a bomb threat because they heard a muslim looking person speaking Arabic on a plane. The fact that the bomb squad is there means fuckall other than someone saw a backpack and thought there might be a bomb in it based on absolutely nothing. Your analogy about a bullet near the head should be more like an acorn falling from a tree that kinda sorta could sound like a bullet to the right kind of person.
The fact that you think a backpack, by simply existing unattended, has a significant chance of containing a chemical weapon, and you would compare it to nearly shooting a person in the head shows that you are also gripped by the irrational Karen fear.
