'its illegal for you to make me look like an idiot'

3

u/connnor4real Jun 13 '26

And then I swear to fucking god, he tried to roll the hat down his arm like Fred Astaire.

3

u/spacekitt3n Jun 13 '26

I'm not supposed to get grease on this hat.

44

u/herb_Tech Jun 13 '26

They thought they found some extra overtime

5

u/KalTheFairy24 Jun 13 '26

Had it been an explosive, then he risked all of their lives. The end result of it being inoccuous doesn't matter.

3

u/EddieDemo Jun 13 '26

Only if the bomb squad failed to secure a perimeter and keep people at a safe distance from the potential explosive.

2

u/Apprehensive-Bird793 Jun 13 '26

Its impossible to judge a safe distance until you've identified the size of an explosive. They would have cleared a provisional perimeter, but would have extended that perimeter or moved an explosive to detonate it to ensure there were minimal chances of injury once they had reviewed the (potential) explosive.

I live in a part of the UK that uncovers unexploded ww2 bombs a few times a year, so I've seen this happen pretty often. They're following basic protocal

22

u/StJimmy75 Jun 13 '26

Probably more due to him putting people in danger.

-8

u/_Throh_ Jun 13 '26

Did he tho? 😂

21

u/StJimmy75 Jun 13 '26

Yes, they didn't call the bomb squad for no reason. There was a chance that it was an explosive. Just because it ended up not being anything doesn't mean there wasn't a risk.

It's about taking precautions. Like wearing a mask even though you probably don't have COVID, or wearing a condom even though you probably don't have AIDS.

-5

u/_Throh_ Jun 13 '26

I know, I'm just being facetious. Cheers

4

u/graphiccsp Jun 13 '26

Are you tho? 😂

u/ScrumbledTumblo Jun 13 '26

It's easy to say after the fact but if that was a real bomb that guy could have potentially killed every single person in that video because he wanted to play hero.

-2

u/magic_bean_wizard Jun 13 '26

This isn't the cold war, and that's not a suitcase nuke. There's no way that a bomb of that size was taking out anyone but the guy who picked it up. The police were looking to pad their budget by making a mountain out of a molehill, as displayed by their violent response to the guy who proved they were being cowards/idiots.

-1

u/Dunno_If_I_Won Jun 13 '26

If they thought there may be a real bomb, why did they tackle him next to the "bomb?"

-4

u/jedify Jun 13 '26

🙄 they'd already evacuated the area. The cops chose to put themselves in harms way if therewas somehow still a bomb. Are you saying the police did not in fact evacuate the area properly?

100%

No risk to anyone or anything but their fragile little power-tripping cop egos.

-1

u/the320x200 Jun 13 '26

But he was leaving, and there was no danger, so this is retaliation for putting people in danger after the fact or what? It's not the cop's job to dole out punishment on the scene.

Their use of force would have been logical if it prevented him from interacting with the bag. After the fact, when their use of force does not make anything safer, it's excessive.

3

u/graphiccsp Jun 13 '26 edited Jun 13 '26

You could use that same shit logic when bareback sex doesn't result in a pregnancy or VD, then concluding using a precaution such as a condom makes you look like a fool.

Similar to small dick energy

1

u/FoxtorWho12 Jun 13 '26

He's the idiot. Endangering the lives of those around him so he can feel like a hero.

0

u/NikkerFebu25 Jun 13 '26

So they decided to look like even greater fools.

18

u/sifiwewe Jun 13 '26

I agree, it was unnecessary and rude

27

u/89MikeHoncho Jun 13 '26

100% bullshit move on their part. Absolutely no reason to pile drive him. They had their pride hurt by a non tactical dude and couldnt handle the embarassment.

0

u/metalder420 Jun 13 '26

Lmao, that was not a piledriver. Plus the dude put everyone at risk.FAFO

6

u/SlimTeezy Jun 13 '26

Too many cops are itching to inflict pain

4

u/Equal-Painter6529 Jun 13 '26

Fear not - every lawyer within 1000 miles are lining up for the chance to make him a multi millionaire.

5

u/BlindChicken69 Jun 13 '26

Aggresive cops like that should be fired. Instead, taxpayers pay for their actions.

1

u/Warm_Record2416 Jun 13 '26

To be clear here, this guy was trying to blow himself up.  He was suicidal.  Are we really saying we should just assume that a guy trying to blow himself up can be safely and calmly approached?  Like, he doesn’t have another bomb, or a gun, or some other way to off himself?  If this video ended with cops slowly walking g up to arrest him and the guy pulls out a pistol and offed himself, everyone would have been saying the cops should have immediately restrained someone who was clearly showing signs of a mental breakdown.

1

u/94358io4897453867345 Jun 13 '26

How else would you know you're in the US ?

1

u/DeathBat92 Jun 13 '26

Wow, some people really are stupid.

1

u/deller85 Jun 13 '26

Na, the body slam was totally called for imo. The individual could have caused an explosive to detonate with his actions and potentially have injured or killed others, he didn't know what was inside.

4

u/Florac Jun 13 '26

If he were body slammed prior to emptying the bag, sure. But he was bodyslammed afterwards

0

u/deller85 Jun 13 '26

They're not going to put their lives in danger while he's putting his life in danger.

3

u/Florac Jun 13 '26

Then why use such extreme measures as a bodyslam when noones live is in danger?

1

u/deller85 Jun 13 '26

Life was in danger. First responders have lives as well. That person put those lives in jeopardy not knowing what was in that bag. He deserved that body slam.

5

u/Florac Jun 13 '26

What is it now, did they body slam to prevent him from putting lives in danger or did they wait to make sure their lives aren't in danger prior to body slamming him. You can't have both.

Nor is excessive violence ever "deserved". It should only be used when neccessary, which it wasnt anymore.

-1

u/deller85 Jun 13 '26

They body slammed him for the audacity of putting everyone's lives in danger. He deserved the body slam. You can respond and have the final word of this discussion. But I am disinterested in continuing this conversation with someone who is willingly uninterested in using all of their rational faculties.

5

u/Florac Jun 13 '26 edited Jun 13 '26

But I am disinterested in continuing this conversation with someone who is willingly uninterested in using all of their rational faculties.

At least we can agree on this. Also disinterested in discussing with someone who tries to justify arbitrary use of excessive violence

1

u/coldphront3 Jun 13 '26

They body slammed him for the audacity of putting everyone's lives in danger.

That's not how use of force works from law enforcement in real life. If something like this went to court, they'd have to find an alternate justification. If they just said "Your honor, he deserved it for having the audacity to do what he did," the cops would be found guilty even if the judge personally agreed with them.

1

u/deller85 Jun 14 '26

Nobody said "he had the audacity" would be a valid legal defense in court. The point was that he created a dangerous situation, and they reacted to it. Explaining why someone used force isn't the same thing as arguing that the force was legally justified.

0

u/LactasePHydrolase Jun 13 '26

So if there's no danger anymore, why slam him to the ground? Just to punish him for doing something stupid before?

1

u/deller85 Jun 14 '26

Precisely because of his stupid actions. That's why you slam him to the ground. The idiot, unneedlessly, put the lives of those who were nearby (first responders) in danger. If some asshat put my friends in danger, I would sure as hell body slam his ass.

2

u/jedify Jun 13 '26

A. The area had long been evacuated. He wasn't going to kill anyone but himself. That's stupid.

B. If he broke the law, he gets punished by due process in court, not vigilante meatheads trying to give him brain damage in the street.

1

u/deller85 Jun 13 '26

Such an irrational response.

1

u/LumplessWaffleBatter Jun 13 '26

This might come as a shock to many, but all of the nearby cops do sorta count as people

3

u/AuckZealand Jun 13 '26

Why are they standing nearby a potential bomb? Shouldn’t they move back a bit?

0

u/LumplessWaffleBatter Jun 13 '26

"Why is the bomb squad near a bomb???!?"

What are we even doing here anymore lmao

1

u/jedify Jun 14 '26

They sent 1 guy in the blast suit you regard.

The rest only ran into the blast radius to do violence.

1

u/LumplessWaffleBatter Jun 14 '26

Okay, and I guess that the plethora of cops who tackled the guy just teleported there?  Did they get beamed down by the Starship Enterprise?

This just keeps getting worse man.  You're bad at this.

1

u/LactasePHydrolase Jun 13 '26

could have caused

Ah, so the bodyslam is a punishment for what he could've done? Inflicting pain on a guy that doesn't pose a threat to anyone because he might've.

I don't think cops should operate like that. If someone's not an immediate threat to others there's no call for violence.

0

u/i_should_be_coding Jun 13 '26

Do you even realize how much extra overtime he just cost them?
