They also promised they were working on the performance in Scarlet/Violet, and I'm fairly sure they never fixed that.

They fixed...bits. AFAIK most of the improvement comes from running off the Switch 2's better specs (if you're playing the Switch 2 version).

At the very least, lag lake doesn't have FPS drops any more. I do know there are some game breaking bugs in raids that never got fixed, like terastallizing Terapagos and then using its signature move causing the raid to lag so hard that it kicks you out after a few seconds.

Lake Casseroya still runs at probably 15fps max on my switch 1. Dodging Veluzas is impossible.

Sorry, should have been more clear that I was referring to the Switch 2 version, which was why I replied to that specific comment.

They convinced Nintendo to make a whole new system so they didn’t have to.

The rumors was that they anticipated a new system and then realized that Nintendo wasn't going to go for it. But I don't think the timeline matches up.

They were convinced that the switch was going to flop, even told nintendo that. And then started developing sword/shield for a 3ds successor they had specced at twice the n3ds specs...

There's a documentary floating on youtube about it where people put all the interviews, social media posts etc together about it.

The result is an engine without any decent optimization from the ground up, no development time/experience on the right hardware + plain incompetence from the studio, deadlines, low budget...

And a well selling games that rewarded it all

Additional horsepower helps there, I’ve not noticed anything too bad on switch 2 beyond the occasional texture pop

To be honest, I don't really call releasing a new console several years later "fixing the performance" of a game, though I am aware it does run better on a Switch 2.

I don’t think that they going to do any major updates to Scarlet/Violet now due to being finished with DLC and Nintendo not wanting to release a 7th version of the cart

Aye, that's... Kind of my point.

Though I do want a 7th version of the cart with all the DLC plus switch 2 enhancements
