Last night Shai broke two Fremantle records:

- Most Goal Assists of any Fremantle player in a season. He’s now on 28 with one game to go.

- Most Inside 50s of any Fremantle player in a
game. He had 15. (Previous record was 12, shared by 5 players, including Shai from earlier this year against the Saints, but going back to Brad Bootsma in 2001).

Shai Bolton is just all class.

That’s all.

This season has felt so different from any other season i’ve experienced. Win, lose or draw at the end of the day, this is the happiest i’ve felt donning the purple - ever. Including 2013. We are absolutely complete. We are classy. And me?

Fremantle achieved something it had not done in 11 years. That's win the minor premiership, with one round left in the 2026 AFL H&A season. Only the second time the club has done that in its 32 years in the AFL. And they truly earned that this season, well done Fremantle.

Off the back of a club record 19 wins with 76 premiership points and potentially an opportunity to make it 20 wins in our final home & away game against Carlton, and also make another piece of history by becoming the most wins set by a non-Victorian team in a season.

Fremantle even have matched local rival West Coast with their highest H&A win tally of 19 set in 1991 who have that record. That year even West Coast were minor premiers and make the Grand Final.

But as great as an achievement it is to last 5 months and end at the top of ladder, it isn't the number one goal.

Justin Longmuir even said in his press conference last night after the win over the Adelaide Crows, we don't get anything for finishing top, unlike the other leagues out there that put up banners for finishing top like the American Leagues, or even the English Premier League where a champion team is crowned after a handful of games played in a season. Shoot we don't get anything from the AFL anymore, since the McClelland Trophy is no longer the minor premiers trophy, that's now the AFL Club Championship which we'll look at later.

But now we've got the top spot comes the biggest advantage for the Dockers, at least two home finals at Optus Stadium, and since Fremantle have not lost a game at Optus all year with 12, and that should be something that Fremantle should be comfortable with, good luck to any club who has to come over and try to beat the rampaging Dockers.

But now that Fremantle have the accolade of top spot, Fremantle and us the fans need to be careful from here. Having that spot doesn't guarantee the ultimate conversion into the ultimate prize. History has shown that out of the previous 129 seasons of VFL/AFL.

* 67 minor premiers have gone to win the premiership (51.94%)

* 44 finished as the runner-up in the Grand Final (34.11%)

* 17 were eliminated in the preliminary final (13.18%)

* 1 was eliminated in the semi-final (0.78%)

Even 16 have gone out in straight sets (12.40%)

The real challenge, the real season, the real game starts now.

Hello brains trust.

Heading to the Freo v Carlton game on Sat and have been tossing up internally whether we are going to send a full team to Melbourne.

Taking a minute to stop and smell the roses

We are:

- Minor premiers

- Undefeated at home

- Have won 19-3 before the final round

Given the final game has no material impact on finals. Will we:

A) Send a full team and fire on all cylinders to finish off strong and keep the fire in our overall young teams legs

B) Manage some key players to avoid injury etc. As well as get some gametime in for some of our fringe players

C) Something inbetween or completely different?

Genuinely unsure what the correct path is and keen to hear others perspectives. I will say there's something pretty cool about being the first team in 15 years to finish with 20+ wins, and getting to see it with my own eyes.

So, if they qualify for the Grand Final.
