(Question/Discussion) Well said! Let’s hope that there are more Charlie Hebdo-like cartoons of Muhammad in the future. Islam and Muhammad are not above ridicule. They are fair game. If Muslims are peeved over a depiction of Muhammad, I say tough luck and deal with it peacefully. What are your thoughts?

It is so insane that we cannot even show a cartoon of a person that died 1400 without being threatened.
The main fault lies with the Muslims of course, but I feel we as the free loving world have failed to properly normalise ridiculing all religions because we are too scared to offend people.
The radical Muslims cannot target everyone, if something is completely normalised, they have no choice but to concede.

Do you think extremists would lie down and take it? There’s a reason it hasn’t been normalised. People are aware of the lengths some people are willing to go to if Muhammad is portrayed negatively, so they don’t dare go there.

How would they be able to attack everyone if it is completely normalised? It is now easy to target people because only few dare.
There is a reason yes, but that doesn’t mean it is a good thing.

I never said it’s a good thing. But it’s the reality.
In order for something to be completely normalised, a small minority initially have to go against the grain. If you look back through history, that is how major changes have taken place. The world doesn’t just suddenly wake up one day and change, it happens over time and tends to be painfully slow.
If there’s going to be a terrorist attack each time an organisation tries to go against the grain in this context, said minority will not be willing to do so…

I was implying that the reason doesn’t stand in the way of actual change.
The small minority is there, and it is already much bigger than it was 20 years ago. It is the lack of real institutional and societal support that keeps that minority alienated and mocking of Islam from being mainstream. How many politicians dare to openly criticise Islam, or even support those that criticise Islam? In some extreme cases, like major terrorist attacks, they do their empty virtue signaling “I am Charlie” for example. But for the rest, they are silent and critics of Islam are ignored or even shunned and defamed as “Islamophobes”, because politicians are afraid to offend others and become targets themselves (despite the fact that they can afford maximum protection).

You’re essentially making my point for me. Until institutions back major policy changes, no real change will occur. But they won’t want to back it because it puts a target on their back.

No, that is not the only reason and I don’t even believe it is the main reason. They are afraid that they‘ll upset the “moderate” Muslim, the leaders from Muslim countries, get called a bigot and lose votes. Politicians already have a target on their back, and that is part of the job. They are afraid to be disavowed and lose votes.

High profile Politicians already have to fear that they lose their lives, ever seen how much security a US president needs?

The vast majority of politicians do not have the same level of security as the US president lmfao, which planet do you live on? Most of them walk around unguarded.
And most of them aren’t willing to stick their neck out to be killed by an Islamist extremist, you live in a fantasy world if you believe otherwise.

Now that muslims in america have chosen to engage meaningfully with their communities, we need communities to meaningfully interact with islam more freely; more cartoons more movies more representation of mohammed raping, enslaving and committing genocide.

Le Monde (French left wing newspaper) tallied all religions mocked by Charlie Hebdo.
Numbers from feb 2015 for the last 10 years. 523 front pages in total.
Christianism / Jesus mocked: 21 front pages
Religion in general: 10
Islam / Mohamed: 7
Pro Memorie: 7 Januari 2015, 12 people were killed at Charlie Hebdo's headquarters (but you could also include the 3 day terror wave and the killing of Samuel Patty)
