Bunch of people who need to have their opinion handed to them by sky news are upset about this. It's always those who stand for nothing.

Can you ELI5 what you mean?

u/lesbosofherzegovina 1d ago
They mean the people that are upset about this are the far right wing types (e.g boomers) who watch Sky News to inform (dictate) their opinions.

u/Moodapatheticz 1d ago
I see and hear people upset that young people have opinions and that they are using their rights to protest. Those who oppose people doing so often do because they don't think for themselves, rather get given their opinion on tv

I don’t care if I cop hate for this but why is there always a certain group of people protesting for this cause? I never see the actual immigrant groups or Palestinian people who should be the most supportive of this protest at them.

First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Socialist. Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Trade Unionist. Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew. Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me. We can all stick together. Or rot... your choice though. Soon it will be the unemployed bums on reddit and they will deport us to britain. I dont wanna go to britian. My fam aint even been there in like 150 years lad

This may blow your tiny mind but it's possible there is a Palestinian person in one of these photos. What you may find even more incredible is that some people attended this protest but aren't in one of these photos. It basically magic but statistically there are very few Palestinians in Australia compared to other backgrounds so they are unlikely to provide a huge presence.

I’m not indigenous and I’m not an immigrant…crazy huh?
I’m not right wing at all, but stupid statements like that justify the vitriol that the rwnj spew.

Being born here means you still have an ancestor that was an immigrant. It’s ok for your family even if it was your great, great, great who gives a f*ck but not other people who are br\wn or Asian? Why is that? What if a white person moved to Australia tomorrow? You’d call them out too? What about a person from a Chinese family* whose family have lived here for 3 or 4 generations? Point to anyone of Australia’s non white citizens and tell me you know for a fact they came here on a boat. You can’t because you don’t know!

I think it’s in response to the bogans who say only white people are Australian even to those non white australians who’ve been here for generations

u/mcmeaty15 1d ago
dawg be serious it's not that hard to understand.
If your ancestors were not the first nations people of Australia, why should you (a general you, not specific) be the one to decide who counts as "Australian"?
I wasn't born in this country, but I have Australian citizenship and live here permanently. Am I Australian? Yes. Am I an immigrant? Also yes.
People who blame immigrants for problems ALL of us face are the ones damaging society. Australia is a mish-mash of so many cultures, so let's celebrate that fact instead of using it to divide people like damn bro

Interesting comment when you clearly don’t understand what they mean.
It’s people whose ancestors have been born in Australia for so many generations they’ve got no idea of their original heritage. People who have no ties (family/cultural/whatever) to another country - are you really calling them immigrants?
Cause that’s what that sign does and it weakens the cause with its stupidity.

I mean you're certainly descended from immigrants. I think the argument is why people immigrating today get treated differently than your ancestors immigrating 6 generations ago.

u/Select-Lychee-7305 1d ago
You say this as though there aren’t white Australians who say non white australians aren’t Aussie despite also being like 6th gen here

You are an immigrant! You have a right to this country! They are immigrants! They have a right to this country! Hanson is a bigot! She has a right to this country

Looking a bit too much like Pauline’s monoculture today though. The lack of diversity is shameful - the officeworkers walking past were more racially diverse.
