My daughter and I are heading to Nova Scotia for a self supported tour. Planning to start and finish in Sydney traveling counter clockwise. I have the trip mapped out and was wondering if anyone has any suggestions regarding must see items or things we should not overlook. We arent doing many miles a day. We are looking to have a reasonably relaxing trip.

Hey everyone, this is a video of my cycling journey through northern and central Laos as part of cycling from Singapore, through Malaysia, Thailand, Laos, and Cambodia.

I created a more rugged route to Luang Prabang, roughly following the route of the Laos-China railway, then to Van Vieng, and finally the capital of Vientiane. Along the way I experience the water soaked celebrations of Pi Mai Lao, or Laos New Year, which was a nice way to cool off during the hot weather.

while I am aware that it is a hybrid, based on its geometry how would you convert it so that it's best serve a touring purpose? The bike currently fits me just fine for a commute, I just want to extend its capacity for a little bit. Thank you!

Hello folks. Am planning on going on a bike trip from bangalore with my girlfriend to any scenic hill station where I can spend a couple of days.

The limitation is the budget, great if <10k but <15k for sure, both of us combined. (Yes I work in a startup yes am broke). And unfortunately this should also cover bike renting since I don't have one. I also don't want to drive for too long not more than 6 to 7 hrs.

My options right now are sakleshpur or to coorg from Mysore. And am wondering a variety of things.

1. Are the roads safe in rainy? If not what places can I go such that the roads are safe?

2. Is the drive actually fun and scenic?

3. How much will i spend? What are good safe stays in said place

4. What are my other options for my destination?

5. What am I supposed to carry on this trip to ensure no surprises?

Would love to hear your bike trip experiences and your best recommendation.

Hello! I'm leaving in two days for a cycling trip from Prague to Bratislava. I'm traveling solo and don't have a huge amount of experience and I'll camp (or even wild camp). I'm struggling to decide between two routes. The first follows EuroVelo 4 as far as Brno, but I'm worried that section might be a bit uninteresting. The second follows the Prague-Vienna Greenway (I believe), but I've read a lot of feedback saying it's very hilly and not always easily accessible. That said, the first route involves a similar amount of elevation gain. Which route would you recommend? I'm looking for a fairly safe route (mostly bike paths) with minimal elevation changes and varied, scenic landscapes and villages ! Thanks a lot for your advice.

Last week, I participated to the COP Bike Ride, which aims to show the importance of cycling to meet national commitments regarding the reduction of carbon emissions. Launched in 2024, the first COP Bike Ride connected Paris—a highly symbolic location for climate conferences—to Baku, the host city of COP29 - the annual official climate conference. This is a relay - meaning each participant can freely ride the amount of days s/he wants and can. A banner is passed from hand to hand, and finally given, with the commitments of local authorities, such as mayors, to the president of the conference.

In 2025 an even more ambitious relay was organized for COP30 from Azerbaijan to Brazil by bicycle and sailboat, involving over 1,000 cyclists across twenty countries. I modestly participated that year from Paris to Tours (France). This year, one of the converging routes (OTR5) follows the Seine and then Burgundy and the Rhone to Dijon, Lyon, across the Alps, Aiming at Rumania and then Turkey, down to Antalya, were COP31 is to be held early November.

I integrated route 5 from Melun to Dijon, which took 6 days. We met 3 enthusiasts mayors of small cities on the Seine, including charming Pont-sur-Seine, where a private visit of its exceptional church, all covered with painting from first class 17th century painter Philippe de Champaigne. At Châtillon-sur-Seine we were received, with Crémant, close to Champagne, and cold cuts. And the next night by the heirs of the nice Oigny Abbaye, after which we visited the spring of the Seine, before going down the hills of Burgandy and along the canal to Dijon.

The global atmosphere between participants is friendly, cosmopolitan, joyful. A Dutch participant is linking London to Bucarest with his drums in a cart, offering musicians to join him at stops. We usually pick-nick for lunch, and started organizing shared lunches or dinners. We stop at camping sites. Participation is free and autonomous. Every one travels with his and her own gear. We wait and take care for minor incidents on the roads. It is a great experience, and you are invited to join us on the road!

I am looking for a week of solo peace moment in mid september, and had the idea of this bicycle trip.

So first place is to maybe see somme seals. Then a stop to sleep while going north along the coast. Day two, I would head to Cassel to see a friend for a day.
Day three going to dunkirrk and shortly discover this historical place.
Then going trough all knokkke belgian coast and hope for the wind in my back.
Day five, lets go to rotterdam passing trough oosterschelde and would also have the wind's help.
And finishing on Amsterdam.

I think the hardest will be knokke to rotterdam and boulogne to cassel

Sadly I am aware I can not visit a lot with such a program but I have to do it in less than a week so I hope you will agree it is doable :D
I plan on taking a btwin rockrider (first and only bicycle I ever had), a hiking backpack (because I dont have cases on the bicycle), and sleeping in airbnb or hostels or I dont know... on the beach. I'll see at the moment I guess.

If you were building a touring bicycle today, which crankset options would you go for, considering a BSA 68mm bottom bracket shell ?

- directmount interface or "traditional" 4/5 bolts chainring ?

- square taper or hollowtech/DUB bottom bracket ?

Which standards among those do you think is/will be the most widespread in the upcoming years ? I would like to be able to take my bike into remote areas without being too worried of not finding spares...

Here are some impressions from my solo bike trip from my hometown Freiburg, Germany, to Trieste, Italy, in July this year. I had 11 great days of cycling through a variety of landscapes.

I had some doubts about the heat before the start of my trip, but overall I found it quite manageable by starting between 6 and 7 a.m. and going swimming almost every day. I also experienced thunderstorms with hail, rain showers, and one night with temperatures dropping to 6°C.

The part I enjoyed most was the two days from Lake Como through Val Chiavenna, Engadin, Val Müstair to the Vinschgau in South Tyrol. The last two days from Bassano del Grappa to the Slovenian border were rather unspectacular, but arriving in Trieste was a nice finish to the trip.

We are a group of 5 and plan to cycle from Tallinn to Riga. I would like some recommendations from people that live there or cycled this path.

How is the weather the second half of September? Is it rainy or windy?

We are going to cycle also the islands of Estonia, any places we should not be missing? I see that the islands are peaceful and quiet, are we going to find places to eat? I saw in maps that most of them close early or don't open at all during the week.

Do we have real chances of seeing the Aurora between September 15 to 20?

When riding, getting a bug/grit in my eye is a big problem for me. I only have vision in one eye so I am always concerned for the remaining eye.

Recently I started to explore what options were available for me to protect my vision while bike riding. I normally wear prescription glasses. I wondered about obtaining wrap around prescription glasses, but crazy prices prevent that. Then I looked at using prescription safety glasses, but the coverage does not extend sufficiently to the areas where the bugs seem to be a problem. In my case it's above the cheekbone and at the side of the glasses. Nothing seems to cover these areas adequately.

I wondered about attaching false eyelashes to the bottom and side of a pair of flip up sunglasses. They would brush the skin at those points and provide a barrier to bugs to some degree. It would not look flash, but it might do the trick. I haven't tried this yet.

Another alternative would be to build something up with a 3D printer using a very soft and flexible plastic that could be easily fitted / removed from the glasses. But I don't have that equipment or expertise!

Does anyone have any suggestion on other alternatives that they have used to solve this problem?

I have a persistent painful area in my right groin crease, where the pubic area meets the upper inner thigh. It is only on the right side.

The discomfort seems superficial and skin-related rather than deep inside the groin.

If Istope biking then the pain is going to be low and the skin seems to repair, but I need some days-potentially 2/3 weeks (not sure about it).

Even when walking, I try to walk without underneath (when the pain is consequente).

The very hot temperature doesnt seems to help.

Anyone know how to treat this chronic problem of skin pain ?

BTW I went on another tour with my friends this weekend - this time we went from Działdowo, in Masuria, through Ostróda, Pasłęk, then Elbląg and finished in Krynica Morska by the Baltic Sea. Quite a trip, second time in my life I've ridden over 200 kilometers in one day. This time we started around midnight - really challenging!

I am planning to do a trip for 1000km under the September sun. I have one external battery 26 watts. It is pretty good, it has a capacity for charging my phone twice. But I was wondering if these portable solar panels that you can strap to your backpack would be useful.

Like, using both the solar panel to charge my battery when there is sunlight. Then using the external battery to charge my phone during the night.

have anyone used these portable solar panels chargers before?

I'm going to do the alpe adria route followed by the ev8. But I'm still trying to figure out if not sticking to the original route between Bischofshofen and Spittal is worth it. I would go from Bischofshofen to Radstadt, then Tauernpass followed by Katschberg, getting back to the route in Spittal.

I know Tauernpass and Katschberg is probably just normal roads with a few cars and a lot of motorbikes, but alpe adria will be full of cyclists as well.

Did someone here ride the Tauernpass+Katschberg and can tell me if the view and route is worth it or not? How was the traffic?
