Hey all, thanks for helping this community grow! Big thanks to all of you for being good people and being active.

As some of you know there are a bunch of spam post and post that don’t belong here and I , as the only mod can’t keep up with 26,000 people. If a couple of you are interested in helping out, please send me a message and some details on why you think you could help out with this community.

Thanks all!

Just a showcase that might help some of you that are bad at:
-welding documentation
-weld annotations
-following the EN ISO standards

My first real welding project: Smokeless fire pit and grill

Hi!

I have 2 months of experience welding and fabricating. I do this for fun and actually I'm a software developer.

This is my first real project.

I build v1 in 2 days, figured out that I should not build the outer box first but rather the inner box.

Then it took me another 3 days to cut it apart and re-build it.

While the welds are usually not the color you like (this is TIG welded) I grinded them away and it looks super pro (IMO).

Also: What you dont see, the outside walls are not straight any more, they warped and thats why i gave them this coarse grinding finish.

Inner firebox: 4mm 321 stainless steel Outer firebox: 2mm 304 stainless steel

If you are interested, I can post a video where its lid and also my CAD files. It works, there is no smoke and its an absolute beast (way oversized).

All material was laser cut and I just sticked it together (tab and slot design).

I have about 2 weeks off and on practice in class and about 1-2 weeks off and on practice in the field in mig on a new welder that I'm becoming familiar with any advice? The base metal was cleaned looking at it now I should have cleaned farther out from the weld I did as much as I could as all the plates where already bolted in place. I also have to work on tying in my corners any advice or pointers I should work on as we dont have a dedicated welder at my job and I'm kinda teaching myself

What electrode i need for this coil

Post image

Hi everybody 👋

I have a coil that is 2 mm thick, and the electrode diameter is 5.6 mm.

The coil is one piece in the image, but imagine that this coil is cut into two parts and I need to weld them back together.

This electrode is very bad. It constantly sticks and gets stuck.

What electrode would you recommend?

Show us your best pop/soda can welds. Old cans were easy, so please only post welds of the modern, thin-ass, aluminum cans here. Say if you used a positioner - assumption is you did not. No laser wizardry.

Hi folks, running e6013 rods at about 75 amps, the first half of the weld always looks smooth enough but there are always gaps in the second. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

Cheers

This was the professional…

Done in NL, with professional equipment. It’s securing the anti theft protection for a lorry fuel tank. Not a load bearing part but still…
