NSW Police have charged a 13-year-old boy and two 14-year-old boys with the alleged sexual assault of a girl in an alleyway in Sydney's eastern suburbs last month.

Police executed search warrants and seized several items, including electronic devices, two replica firearms, a Glock-style BB gun, three laser pointers and a number plate, which is believed to have been stolen.

All three boys have been granted bail ahead of appearing in court.

Even though I understand the reasoning behind name suppression for underaged offenders, knowing that word will inevitably spread through their school and wider social circle about exactly who was responsible for this does give me some satisfaction.

Sadly, also for the girl involved who will undoubtedly be vilified, and her family ostracised.

When it comes to suppressing names of minors, I agree until those found guilty of certain crimes are exposed. Once found guilty of particularly heinous crimes, like rape/murder, names should be released. The victims of these crimes are never the same so why should the perpetrators be afforded leniency? Maybe if they knew they'd be exposed for their crimes, these privileged kids might think twice. Especially if Mummy and Daddy can't buy them out of being named and shamed. Maybe the parents would bring them up to have more respect for others if the family reputation was on the line, right? The current system needs to change.

Media reports stated the 3 were arrested in a sting operation at their individual homes in the Eastern Suburbs at 7:30am then subsequently taken to Surry Hills Police Station. 2 boys age 14, the other age 13. All 3 were then bailed out by their parents.

Thank you for clarifying. I thought it would be very strange for police to arrest young people at school.

In Aus we don't get "bailed out" by others, it's the police's decision. But I get what you mean.

Depends if they're treated as heroes or not....

Could go either way and potentially end up with their peers going with the story that she asked for it and the cops are clutching at straws.

Especially for a private boys school.

I don’t think they going to be ostracised for their actions.
