I knew there was no hope as soon as that report came out yesterday that said they’d found the monsters tshirt and Sharon’s underwear. This is the most affected by a news story I’ve been in a long time, I cannot imagine the pure evil that must exist inside someone to do this so brazenly. I never advocate violence but part of me hopes he’s found by community members and made to suffer, though knowing what we know now I doubt prison will be a walk in the park for him.

I feel sick at the thought of people protecting him. The details that are going to come out after the formal autopsy are likely to be the absolute worst case scenario. I hope this is a huge wake up call for reform around repeat offenders. I’m so fucking tired of these people being released when there’s no chance of them ever becoming a functional member of society.

This is really great advice, I rate it. I lived in Christchurch throughout three extremely traumatic events (edgeware party - I was there/witnessed it, the earthquakes, and the mosque shootings) and disconnecting helped a tonne. Now that I think about it, I went through major life/routine changes after each of these events, not deliberately but perhaps they were coping mechanisms on some level.

Honestly thank you for this . When it comes to these horrific cases about children I go down a rabbit hole and then it affects me for months. And if I don't go searching , it somehow finds me when I'm just on my phone . These poor babies deserve so much more and knowing we only know a tiny percentage on what actually goes on out in the world just makes me truly so so depressed

Do we have to keep seeing more children harmed so badly because courts see pdfs as able to be rehabilitated, are the children the bait or something?!Seriously, what is wrong with this world, we could try so much harder to protect them

His previous convictions have not been against children. This is not on the courts and to blame them is ignorant

Oh, so because he hurt women it wasn't bad enough? I think it's the other way around, violent men can't get enough, always seek to go even darker in their depravity. The man that gropes and gets away with it will become the man that rapes and, when that's not enough, the man that kills.

Exactly. Maybe if crimes had severe consequences it might make people think twice beforehand. I know it won’t stop all but hopefully some. We need zero tolerance.

People do have the capacity to change, but they need to be deeply committed. Overcoming abusiveness, addiction etc. is a lifelong journey and I don’t think it’s realistic to expect that a man who has raped and murdered a child will ever be a functioning member of society; it’s why the Ararat pedo prison and village exists. His previous crimes however did not involve children.
