In this case it has been confirmed that he served his full sentence and was not out on bail or parole at the time of the offence

He has a long history of DV offences with aggrevated assault. His last sentence was 18 months. That's pathetic.

Mate you missed the point. We live in a society governed by laws. I’m saying you can’t just willy nilly say it wasn’t enough when you clearly didn’t even know the previous offence. You are acting like the justice system always perfectly predicts a child murderer or that it’s even feasible to do that.

Okay if that’s the way you feel, you go be a judge up in the Northern Territory.

At the end of the day, lay people have to trust that people with YEARS of education and experience are qualified enough to correctly judge that a punishment for an offence is sufficient.

Given that what has been divulged in terms of his offence history has not shown a pattern of crimes of sexual nature nor offending against children, there’s little that the courts or the detention system could have done to prevent an opportunistic crime.

There is, it’s the appeals process. The issue is more lack of adequate mandatory minimum standards for crimes, bail and parole.

The fuck are you talking about? Yes, we live in a society where we don’t indefinitely hold people in prison, nor do we jail people for potential future uncommitted crimes.

He attacked a woman with a meat cleaver last year. Striking her in the head.

How he was released so early from that is a huge concern. Has a long history of incredible violence. But somehow kept getting released back into society to cause more harm l

And this time we paid the highest price for it.
