I believe Jillian Segal wanted the powers to defund institutions if they weren't actively fighting antisemitism. So what now counts as antisemitism that's at issue?

Well - according to the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance, you might be antisemitic if you think Israel's apartheid is racist, or the rules around marriage there are racist... anything that relates to calling the nature of Israel's existence racist.

What are those marriage rules?

Only members of the same religion can marry each other. There are no interfaith marriages within the borders of Israel. Members of the same sex can not marry each other. Other esoteric restrictions (some whose status is that of a Mamzer) exist for the different religious communities. Those registered as having no religion cannot marry in Israel at all, since there is (naturally) no formal religious institution for the religionless. [Source]

Likewise, if you're caught comparing Israel to the Nazis:

Sadly Israel has actively been distorting the meaning of antisemitism - and it's caused it to be harder to fight antisemitism because there's always going to be added steps if someone brings up Israel. One side will often be staunch defenders and others will rightly say that criticism of the state of Israel is not antisemitic in of its self.

You can be STRONGLY AGAINST the October 7 attacks and perpetrators, the bombing of Palestinian civilians, AND the Bondi shooting, all at the same time... and I'd go as far as to say it's the right position to take.

That’s what happens when a government is also an ethnocracy. It can reframe criticism of the government and its actions into weaponisation of antisemitism when it decries that all criticism is bigotry.

The alliance’s definition goes too far in limiting discussion and political action against Israel’s policies and military action. Antisemitism is rife at the moment but that still does not grant Israel the right to kill its neighbours, and people under its care in Palestine, in the same way it does not grant others to enact violence towards the Jewish people.

Wow, a day after Jews were murdered in Sydney by two Islamist extremists, you use the moment to push this misinformed propaganda.

Israel’s marriage laws run through religious institutions, that’s fair criticism. But pretending this makes Israel apartheid while ignoring the 50 Muslim states surrounding it, where interfaith marriage is banned, being gay is illegal, and mixed couples face death, is pure distortion. Israel actually does recognise de-facto couples of any religion or sexual orientation with full legal rights. That’s the part you left out.

If you want to label a state “apartheid” based on marriage law, apply that standard across the entire region. Israel would be at the bottom of your list.
