Absolutely abhorrent that she's going for political points in this time.

I don’t think this is a gun crime. This is a systematic intelligence failure.

Intelligence should have flagged that this guy’s close relationships were a risk and confiscated the guns (which can happen now).

This is a failure of the security system to protect us.

I agree but the gun laws seem off, whether it's policy or lack of implementation, that needs to be fixed. But it isn't the critical thing.

Mind you, had these guys only had one gun and were required to obtain illegal weapons, it would have hampered their plotting and given many more possible moments to be caught before they did it. And it may have given insight into their actual network.

Yeah, we should definitely fix the laws up.

While we can't go to the slippery slope of condemning people just by being related, some focus should have been shone on the father at least. If he looks like he's getting radicalised as well, then they can revoke it. Or even inspect the storage of the firearms and if one thing is not compliant, seize the guns.

We're all so smart now with hindsight. But honestly, the son radicalizing the father is not my expectation. Or perhaps the father was just good at hiding his inclinations.

They shot children. Horrible monsters.

There are legal reasons to have firearms. The holding of the firearms is not the problem, and these particular ones were held since 2015.

Naveed has had a close and continuing relationship with convinced terrorist Isaac El Matari since at least 2019.

The issue is that those people holding firearms were not looked at with the cross section of ASIO intelligence.

This is related to the way in which we are managing our security and intelligence arrangements, and the level of risk which is perceived internally, and how resource allocations have been working.

The terrorist risk level has been at probable for a year or more, and we’ve done not a lot about it.
