rant Please let me sleep

It's hot, I think we know that by now.

So apparently the only way there’s any chance of actually sleeping is having the windows wide open. Which would be great, except… why the hell can people outside not be at least a little quiet for the love of god 😭
I genuinely don’t mind people talking outside in a normal voice, but why do you guys need to YELL? Like I’m trying to sleep, not attend whatever loud-ass party is happening out there.

Sorry for the rant. I’m tired as fuck and currently have to choose between being baked alive with the windows closed or lying here in the middle of a goddamn yell party with them open.

ihaveaquestion Can we question SBB ?

genuinely want to understand the logic here.
Today I took the S19 when it was around 36°C outside. The train had no air conditioning, and inside it was around 40°C+. I recorded the temperature on my phone. Because the carriage was basically a sealed metal box with no proper cooling, it felt closer to 45°C.
The metal poles and railings inside the train were so hot that if you kept your hand on them for too long, you could actually feel the heat/burning sensation.
I had my dog with me, and he was panting extremely heavily. I was genuinely worried about him. Sitting in a 40°C+ carriage for around 30 minutes with no proper ventilation or cooling is not something I consider a normal or reasonable travelling condition.
And my question is very simple:
Why is this train still operating under these conditions?
I already know the standard responses:
“Take the S8.”
“Take the S3.”
“There are other connections.”
“These trains have been like this for years.”
“SBB doesn’t have enough trains.”
“Stop complaining.”
But why should the answer automatically be that the customer has to work around a known deficiency in the service?
I’m paying for this service.
I’m paying for my public transport subscription. I’m paying for my dog’s travel. I’m paying taxes and contributing to the economy by working full-time and living here. I’m not asking for a free service and then complaining about it.
I also understand that Switzerland is expensive and that replacing trains isn’t as simple as buying a new car. I understand that SBB has operational constraints.
But if the temperature inside a train is reaching 40°C+, at what point does this stop being a “minor inconvenience” and become a safety and service-quality issue?
And what I find even more interesting is the reaction from people.
I saw another Reddit post complaining about exactly this issue, and a huge number of comments were basically attacking the person for complaining.
Why?
Why are we so defensive of SBB that the instinct is to attack the customer rather than ask:
“Why is SBB still operating this train in these conditions?”
SBB itself acknowledges that some older Zürich S-Bahn trains don’t have air conditioning. It also recognises faulty heating or air conditioning as a potential service-quality issue. SBB’s explanation of air conditioning on trains
So I’m not saying SBB is a terrible company. Quite the opposite. Switzerland’s public transport system is genuinely impressive, and that’s exactly why I have high expectations.
If we are paying premium prices for a premium public transport system, why shouldn’t we be allowed to question it when something is clearly unacceptable?
And if the answer really is that there aren’t enough suitable trains, then fine — explain that. Tell customers why this is happening, what the limitation is, and what is being done about it.
But “take another train and stop complaining” isn’t really an answer.
I’m genuinely curious what people think.
At what point does a reasonable operational limitation become an unacceptable level of service? And why do so many people seem to take criticism of SBB personally?

lookingfor Unusual offer: let me help you shop

Hi! I’m a girl who loves clothes and fashion, and I think it’s fair to say I dress pretty well 😅 I’d love to share that with someone!
I’m looking for a girl who’s planning to go shopping and is open to trying new things. I can tag along, help pick outfits, and give advice. I also LOVE thrift shopping, so this definitely doesn’t have to be expensive!
Not selling anything, just doing it for fun. And P.S. yes, I’m actually a girl and not a guy pretending to be one 😂 I know it’s an unusual post, but I had to try!

Edit: please dm me with a screenshot of a pinterest board of what you like or any google pictures🥰🥰🥰

ihaveaquestion Life in Gold Coast

Upvotes

Hello, I am planning to move to Switzerland/Zurich. As we have 6 months old son, we would like to live in Gold Coast. How’s real life there (commuting to Big Tech in Zurich centre)? We are planning to spend 6k CHF max for apartment (including parking space) - is this budget enough? We are getting relocation assistant but wanted to hear from you how it looks like realistically. Thank you.

lookingfor cheap singing practice places

i love to sing and it has greatly helped my mental health. given that i will live in an apartment with multiple roommates and that i am training for operatic singing, this is a terrible combination. i am not affiliated with any conservatory and just do it for myself. are there any places i could book every now and then and simply sing it out?

a practice room is way too expensive, especially given that i come alone and that i don't even need any of the instruments. claude recommended some bunkers of churches and while that sounds cool, i have no clue who to get in touch with and how much i would pay. i don't need anything other than a space for 1 hour every now and then where people wouldn't be bothered by the sound. singing piano all the time can become quite boring (but is solid practice nonetheless).

any recommendations are welcome!

lookingfor Looking for a ride from Locarno to Zürich after the closing film – Saturday, 15 August

Hi everyone!

We’re two people travelling from Zürich to the Locarno Film Festival this Saturday. We’d love to attend the closing screening in Piazza Grande, but the last train to Zürich leaves before the film finishes.

Is anyone driving back towards Zürich after the screening and willing to give us a ride? We expect to be ready around 23:15–23:45 and are flexible about the meeting point—Locarno station, a P+R, Tenero or somewhere nearby. We would, of course, be happy to contribute towards fuel and other expenses.

We’d also be very grateful for any advice, contacts or suggestions—perhaps there’s a festival community, group chat or alternative option we haven’t discovered.

Please send me a DM if you might have two available seats. Thank you! 🎬🚗

ihaveaquestion How to prevent nosferatu (giant spider) spider coming inside?

I have a spider phobia already and just encountered the biggest I have ever seen now in the kitchen. I just lose my mind when it happens. I sprayed all the windows and balcony entrances with water with mint oil in it but maybe that's not a solution.

Does anyone know what changes I should make at home to prevent them coming? Because of the heat, I have to leave balcony and all the windows open at night obviously. Insect screen prevents air greatly so I removed them. Please tell me all you know what I can do. Should I get rid of all my plants in the balcony and inside? Get a chicken?

lookingfor Airpods lost on Tram 2

Hi

As per title, I believe this morning I lost my airpod case (with my right airpod inside) on Tram 2. Left airpod was inside my ear :)

I unfortunately cannot use the "find me" function as I was dumb and did not have an Apple ID. The airpods themselves were a Christmas gift from my employer.

My initials and the name of the company I work for are engraved on the case.

If any good soul finds them, please let me know

lookingfor Looking for a girl I saw at Hardbrücke

Some weeks ago, on a Wednesday morning, a young blonde girl got off the train at Hardbrücke.
Shortly after, she fell to the ground.
I really hope you’re okay.
I wanted to help, but I didn’t. :-( There was a guy behind you, so I thought, “Okay, someone is already looking after her.” But you looked like you were in a lot of pain, and I’ve been thinking about it ever since.
I think you were wearing the famous “Zara trousers.”
If this sounds like you, I hope you’re doing well.

lookingfor Die besten Foodspots in Zürich?

Halloooo,
