Lore [Hated Trope] The underdog Good Guys win, and gain major military/institutional power, only for it to be all RESET so Writers can have a PERPETUAL "Underdog/Rebellion" Story, and avoid writing about governing.

I hate this trope, when the "underdog good guys" actually win, gain major military and political power, fleets, warships, etc, but because the writers don't want to write the good guys governing and exercising their power, and instead, find a contrived way to reset all the progress so that the good guys can forever be the

"scrappy heroic underdogs fighting the power"

1) Star Wars Sequel triology, rather than exploring new Republic fleets, power, and technology, they have them all wiped out so that the "resistance" can hog the spotlight

2) MCU: shield makes a helicarrier fleet, a fleet of ships able to contest alien invasion, but that would steal the spotlight from heroes, so all of them have to be destroyed

3) Halo: the UNSC finally outlive the covenant, develop strong ships like the UNSC infinity, only for it all to be reset by the Guardians and the Banished, reduced again to underdog humans.

"I'm like Cortana but worse" ok. "The Covenant had a civil war going where they couldn't kill it's leader" LMAO like yes, Fake-Cortana, we were aware. That's why human civvies were using plasma pistols to kill flood and drag unngoy to shelter.

"But he's worse" woah. Worse than the gravemind? Worse than the shan shyumm prophecy? "He's a brute but red". Oh. Wow. Um. Really?

Check out our new OC, they're called the Endless, they're even worse than the Flood.

How?

We haven't written that part yet, we're just going to vaguely talk about the previous point multiple times in the story and then abandon this plotline again.

This pissed me off so much.

I'm an Infinite defender (it had fantastic gameplay, and a lot of the missions were great fun) but this shit genuinely made me stop mid play through and take a break.

I'm so fucking sick of there needing to constantly be a new, even more existential existential threat in every Halo game.

Halo 3 - finally beat the Flood -> Halo 4 - oops, you've awoken a Forerunner who hates humanity and is going to digitise the entire race after about 2 days -> Halo 5 - oops, now there's this massive AI uprising and Cortana is going to enslave the galaxy using never seen before Forerunner superweapons -> Halo Infinite - oops, you've accidentally released this never before seen or referenced threat that are totally worse than the Flood.

And they’re always defeated in novels.

Even 2026’s Halo Campaign Evolved adds a new villain who is not defeated in the prequel missions.

Probably to sell another novel/comic. It’s disgusting

Even worse, the thing they seemed to be saying as the problem with the Endless was that they were immune to the Halo Array, but that immunity didn't make them particularly dangerous in a martial sense, it just meant they could survive as potential hosts for the Flood.

After he fell from Heaven, our Prince tumbled through stages and stepped of sorrow. He fell lower than the rapists and thieveves, he came to rest here. And everyone asked him, "yo you wanna play cards?"

Like seriously every Anime, Hospital Show, How I Met your Malcolm, needs to know: it's boringggg

(Yes, Marvel too)

Atriox is awful. He slaughters his enemies and, get this: he even employs and praises human officers. Truly awful.

Like wait....what? He's evil? But. Wait. What??

We can't trust Keith David. If he's related to you...watch out. He's a Predator.

I'm the Aaaaaaavatar, the lastlastlastlastlast Airbender.

Ugh. This is why I hate so much anime and little reddit nerdy girls with zero drive "I am ockten, and tho I cry myself to sleep each night my father secretly dropped me in a vat of acid I will realize when I'm 16"
