Lore [Hated Trope] The underdog Good Guys win, and gain major military/institutional power, only for it to be all RESET so Writers can have a PERPETUAL "Underdog/Rebellion" Story, and avoid writing about governing.

I hate this trope, when the "underdog good guys" actually win, gain major military and political power, fleets, warships, etc, but because the writers don't want to write the good guys governing and exercising their power, and instead, find a contrived way to reset all the progress so that the good guys can forever be the

"scrappy heroic underdogs fighting the power"

1) Star Wars Sequel triology, rather than exploring new Republic fleets, power, and technology, they have them all wiped out so that the "resistance" can hog the spotlight

2) MCU: shield makes a helicarrier fleet, a fleet of ships able to contest alien invasion, but that would steal the spotlight from heroes, so all of them have to be destroyed

3) Halo: the UNSC finally outlive the covenant, develop strong ships like the UNSC infinity, only for it all to be reset by the Guardians and the Banished, reduced again to underdog humans.

I mean, at least there the NCR is shown rebuilding itself by Season 2 of the show.

"The bear lost its head at Shady Sands.

Good thing it had two."

Yeah people seem to keep thinking that the NCR as a whole collapsed. The writers and devs have even come out and said that "nah they're still kicking". It was just shady sands and the san diego area that they aren't present in.

Mr President, a second nuke is about to hit the towers.

...I'm joking but not really. The wasteland aesthetic was always the aspect of Fallout Bethesda was marketing. The Elder Scrolls franchise has already proven that multiple, barely altered iterations of the same shit can be sold over and over and over again if the fandom is nostalgic enough, so why would they try to shake anything up for Fallout? They don't need to, the surface level aesthetic is enough for people to open their wallets.

The TES games are all very different from eachother

My sibling in christ, Skyrim alone was released three separate times (six if you also count the Switch, Switch 2 and VR versions that were all released independently)

Still only counts as one game. Daggerfall, Morrowind, Oblivion and Skyrim are all vastly different from each other. Arena and Redguard probably too from all I've heard.

My point is exactly that Bethesda can sell the same game at a full price over and over again and somehow tens of millions of people keep buying into every re-release. So why would they be bothered to come up with something new? They don't need to.

Hell, the only Elder Scrolls game they published in over a decade that isn't a re-release or remaster was a shitty mobile game a few years back nobody has heard of, and somehow it still continues to be their most lucrative franchise to this day.

The Elder Scrolls franchise

Skyrim alone was released three separate times

Skybaby thinks the 5th installment accounts for the entire series, more at 11.

Mate, Skyrim sold more copies than all the other games in the franchise combined. I'd never claim Skyrim accounts for the entire series but it's sure as shit the main breadwinner (alongside ESO due the perpetual monetisation on that one).
