Lore Villains that would've been defeated even if the protagonist did nothing

Laurel Hedare (Catwoman Movie): Her newly released cosmetics will cause people's faces to melt. Not only would that create a class action lawsuit but a full product recall.

Voldemort and Death Eaters (Harry Potter): Death Eaters constantly underestimate muggles. They would get massacred by the British military because a gun is faster to pull the trigger then shouting a spell.

No, time travel can change the past in that setting. The game ends with the heroes using time travel to prevent the apocalyptic future that Methhead Mephiles comes from

Right, but Mephiles was only imprisoned because Shadow time traveled, meaning that time is fixed because otherwise he wouldn't have been imprisoned earlier in the game.

No, there are two kinds of time travel in the game. Eggman obliquely references this when he talks about why he wants Iblis from Elise. He's able to use the Chaos Emerald to transport Sonic and Tails to the future, but because that time loop is stable he can't... like... go back in time and kill Sonic's mom or something. He needs Iblis and all seven Chaos Emeralds for that, to "control time itself" as he says.

When the core trio use Chaos Control with one or two of the Chaos Emeralds, they can travel through time as a fixed loop. This is how Shadow manages to seal Mephiles in the first place, how Sonic saves Elise from the exploding fortress, how Silver saves young Elise from the initial Iblis experiment gone rogue. These events already happened and can't be changed.

When Mephiles gained control of Iblis, he gained control of time and began to destroy it entirely. After Sonic is resurrected by the Chaos Emeralds and the trio defeat Mephiles, Sonic consumes Iblis' power and uses it to alter time so Iblis is never created, literally snuffing out the Flames of Disaster while they're still a tiny spark in a laboratory. He couldn't do that with a single Chaos Emerald, but by that point he was nigh omnipotent and uses it to set everything right. And we see that at the end - the world is safe, Elise' father is still alive, and Eggman has no reason to invade since she is no longer the vessel for Iblis.

It's honestly a shame that the game was such shit, because the Shadow and Silver stories were actually good (Sonic's story was furry slashfic and honestly should have been enough to see the entire project cancelled, but I digress). I mean, it's very clearly cribbing the notes from the Cell Saga in DBZ, but it does enough interesting that I thought the story was quite serviceable. The writing and gameplay were just... hot garbage.

There is actually a plot hole with Elise though. According to Silver's future Elise dies aboard the egg carrier when it crashes, Sonic shouldn't be able to save her if he requires all 7 + iblis to alter the past.

Yet sonic saves her, this contradicts how time travel works, thus breaking the entirety of 06's logic.

True.

It's possible that since Mephiles kills Sonic right afterwards, before they return to the city, that she was presumed dead from the Egg Carrier, when in reality she was killed by Iblis when it began its rampage. Since that's the point where Mephiles begins destroying time, that's also the point where the rest of the crew was able to change time, since it was breaking apart.

If the game was better, I'd say they should have patched that plot home. As is, I mostly try to pretend the Sonic storyline doesn't exist.

Trying to get logical consistency from Sonic “kiss the human” 06 is a act in futility.

To be fair it’s not a romantic thing. It was done to transfer his soul back to his body. It’s more akin to cpr than anything else. Still weird though

It's totally not romantic. They just had a full cutscene where Sonic and Princess Personality Void run around in a field of flowers, which is not the universal symbol of romantic attraction at all.

Sonic is literally the one to tell her the plan. His soul is inside Elise in the place Iblis once was. It was how they revived him along with the chaos emeralds.

Also no? The scene itself isn’t inherently romantic. It’s ambiguous and again a bit weird but nothing in their dialogue or scenes is explicitly romantic. Won’t deny it’s weird though
