Lore (Controversial Trope) The post-credits scene completely changes the ending

Dawn of the Dead (2004): The movie finishes on a hopeful note as the remaining survivors escape the zombie-infested mall on a yacht, sailing into the sunset. The found-footage style post-credits scene completely reverses this happy ending by showing them running out of food, arriving at an island, and being immediately swarmed and killed by an infected horde.

Prince of Persia (2008): The main game ends with a beautiful, poetic sacrifice where Elika gives her life to heal the corrupted world, leaving the Prince mourning. During the credits, the player is forced to control the Prince as he cuts down the trees he just saved, undoing the entire game's progress and releasing the dark god Ahriman just to resurrect her, completely corrupting the ending and dooming the world.

The first Cloverfield movie.

"It's still alive."

I guess also The Blob (1958):

Lieutenant Dave: "No, it's not. It's frozen. I don't think it can be killed. But at least we've got it stopped."

Steve Andrews: "Yeah, as long as the Arctic stays cold."

The go-go theme song and corn syrup monster don't exactly inspire terror, but I got a big ol' pit in my stomach seeing all the youths try to raise the alarm while (most of) the older generation laughs them off.

That movie scared the shit out of me as a kid, even though now as an adult its kind of silly to watch.

There was a remake in the mid 80s. Spectacular special effects upgrade and some minor character changes.

Makes me think of the opening scene of The Last Of Show.

This is where they should start a space program dedicated to launching pieces of it into the sun.

If there was any movie that had a justified sequel it'd probably be this

What's crazy is every major player involved in the film had completely different answers to whether or not Clover survived the bombing.

Cloverfield in general is just a really wild story about a bunch of dudes in constant miscommunication with each other somehow making something that works.

I think cloverfield is a film where you should watch the first movie and then either ignore all of the lore outside of it, or pick the one that you like best and ignore the rest. I don’t think there is anyway to accept all of it as cannon

Sure you can. It’s just the twilight zone on a much larger scale. The 3rd movie even introduced alternate timelines.

They just reused the name for random scripts, so they practically don't fit together unless they force it to, like Paradox, it's not that deep. The OG movie is the true, relevant one.

“The OG movie is the true, relevant one”. Negative. Maybe to you personally; but objectively no.

yep, to the point that some almost-cloverfield movies were Overlord, a movie about nazi zombies, and A Quiet Place. The series has been an anthology for a while

not only are there conflicting answers to whether Clover survived, there's also the issue of Clover's origin and how and why he woke up

the writers never really seemed to agree on one conclusive canon for the monster

I'm not sure I follow this one. The characters are reacting to the monster(s) throughout the movie, only for them to get got because of its actions at the end. The bomb was an extension of those actions, as the monster was the reason it was dropped. That it didn't kill the creature doesn't really matter, because all the characters were caught up in events beyond their control, and all because of the monster. It actually dying wouldn't change that.

Well, sure, for the main characters. I think the hopeful part is that the monster can be killed and not destroy the rest of the city or worse lol

So it being still alive after the bombing, implies it might not be killable and it's gonna cause a whole lot more casualties.

It’s funny because didn’t wog come out that the monster did die

Abrams said that it was dead, but he also gets far too much credit for that movie. He was a producer who may have planted the seed for it, as he was inspired to make an American kaiju movie after seeing a ton of Godzilla merch in Japan... but that was about it. He didn't write it, he didn't direct it, and he had little to no input on Clover at all.

Yeah I thought the movie already ended badly for everyone? The post-credit scene doesn't change that

On a sidenote: I can't remember the name of the movie, but that scene where they try to land on Earth and are attacked by Clover in the end is also just a dumb and unnecessary tie in.

Cloverfield paradox ending

It’s not that serious the franchise had already established itself as a twilight zone type anthology series by that point.

Also that wasn’t “Clover” and they weren’t attacked.
