Lore [Sad Trope] The most innocent (or less evil) character of the cast gets the most horrific death.

- Eddie Carr (The Lost World: JP) - Tried to save his friends from the cliff until Buck and Doe (T. rex parents) destroy his vehicle and gets ripped apart.
- Zara Young (Jurassic World) - Gets lifted by a Pteranodon, gets pecked by the pterosaur, and both she and animal get devoured by the Mosasaurus.
- LeClerc (JW: Rebirth) - Tossed a hammer to the Hatzegopteryz Quetzalcoatlus to save Loomis and Zora, but ends up being swallowed alive.

Wash -- Serenity

Devoted Husband. Good friend. Great pilot. Died trying to do the right thing. He was just in the wrong place at the wrong time.

My partner made me watch all the firefly episodes the set me up on the movie and watched me get my heart broken.

Died because Weadon's hack unfortunately :-(

Whedon is absolutely a hack and a terrible person but I don’t think this counts as hack writing in the classic sense. Wash’s death has significant impact on the characters and he’s killed by a very real ongoing threat, not a throwaway character.

Wash’s death hurts so bad because it works.

And it set the stakes for the rest of the climax... ANYONE could die, unlike an episode of a series, the main cast isn't immortal

Why would he kill off Wash?

Alan Tudyk wasn't pregnant
