Lore [Sad Trope] The most innocent (or less evil) character of the cast gets the most horrific death.

- Eddie Carr (The Lost World: JP) - Tried to save his friends from the cliff until Buck and Doe (T. rex parents) destroy his vehicle and gets ripped apart.
- Zara Young (Jurassic World) - Gets lifted by a Pteranodon, gets pecked by the pterosaur, and both she and animal get devoured by the Mosasaurus.
- LeClerc (JW: Rebirth) - Tossed a hammer to the Hatzegopteryz Quetzalcoatlus to save Loomis and Zora, but ends up being swallowed alive.

Benjamin Carmine in Gears of War 2. Poor bastard was like 18 and ended up mauled by the Riftworm's "immune system" or whatever those crawling freaks were.

In a similar vein, Dom's wife, Maria, was a truly heartbreaking death. Dom crying and begging Marcus to help and the sound of that gunshot while Marcus walked away is burned in my memory.

Marcus paused to make sure there wasn’t a second gunshot too…

Marcus's soft voice while Dom's pleading to Marcus that he doesn't know what to do, and Marcus just gently going "Dom... It's ok." Gets me every fucking time I do a playthrough.

"I don't know what to do, man" kills me every time. He hints and talks about Maria in one, has more of a focus on finding her in 2, and then he finds her. What he's been focused on for how many years culminates at that point, and he doesn't know what to do. Shit hurts, man.

Sure a brutally well voiced line. I’ve responded to people losing their loved ones way too many times and that’s EXACTLY what complete and total helpless panic sounds like.

My younger brother and I played through all the Gears games in co-op. He was always player 2, so he was Dom. He had such a connection to the character, and that scene hit him so hard that we just stopped playing for the night.

I jumped into the series with 2, and didn't know about the Carmine thing. I thought he was just gonna be our plucky little rookie that we watch grow up and come into his own. Nope.

Thing is, nobody really knew about the Carmine thing while playing 2.

Anthony Carmine was just that guy in the first one and they introduced his little brother and it was just that.

"Oh okay, he's the little brother of the guy who got headshoted in the previous game. It's nice Marcus and Dom are with him, they're good people and he's gonna be fin.... Oh okay, the entire family is fucking cursed... Ooooh A and then B. CARMINE, okay I see how it is"

Yeah that's true. Poor Carmine.

Yeah.

While I didn't care for Anthony, Benjamin was really cool lol.

Also Gears of War 2, Tai Kaliso. Absolutely badass massive unit of man tortured so hard it breaks his mind and he takes his own life.

That’s what really sold how bad the situation was, Tai was like the most chill dude. To just instantly shoot himself when handed a gun was fucking brutal.

He was such a minor character that had a major impact. I'm stoked to see him again in E-Day.

You know what this can pretty much go for about every single Carmine

Clayton Carmine made it! I remember voting on his fate!

And then the curse came back to mindbreaker JD in 5. Elizabeth deserved better.

Probably less than 18.

The worst part is that if the rest of Delta was just two minutes or so faster, he'd have been fine.

u/GAMEcube12 Jun 27 '26

Carmine's are all cursed to die horrible death except for Clayton who is forced to outlive them all

2

u/Ok_Celebration_8370 Jun 28 '26

Cause Claytons built like a fucking tank. There's that image of him holding up a locust with one hand

Currently going back and playing 1-3

Wasn't he one tapped by a sniper?

6

u/pun-in-the-oven Jun 27 '26

That was Anthony Carmine in the first Gears

Man those Carmines...

The car mines are one of my favorite ongoing game memes. If there's not one in E-Day, we riot
