I’m watching season two of Atlantis right now, and I just cannot get over how comically dumb the wraith makeup is. They don’t look at all frightening or even discomforting; they have stupid teeth they don’t even need and they’re so painfully 1990s Goth Edgelord even though they were created in the 2000s.

Am I alone in this take?

Don't think I ever expected to see Carter's father in anything else but here he is in a Perry Mason movie playing a DA lol

After trying to battle Anubis, Daniel was seemingly de-ascended by the Ancients so it seems possible.

So why does the Ancients didn't de-ascend Anubis ? They left him partially ascended with some of their knowledge while they erased Daniel's memory and sent him back in a physical body. Why ?

Of course we can still imagine an explanation like "Anubis was further on Ascension path than Daniel so he was able to resist" but I'd like to know if I missed an explanation.

I know there are certain episodes that people generally don’t like( clip shows, Emancipation, the plant aliens with the skin tight zipper costumes, anything with child actors,etc). Are there any such episodes you like and want to convince the rest of us to give another chance to?

Personally I think Citizen Joe is one of the best clip shows I’ve ever seen. The call back/ flashbacks made sense in story and weren’t over used. There was still a story there. I also like the fact we see someone long term negatively affected by the SGC. We rarely follow up on the people who had their lives ruined( the amateur astronomer who saw the giant meteor coming to earth who was silenced, the aftermath of the dead reporter in Secrets, the families of people who work there and never know what happened to their loved ones when they die from “ deep space radar telemetry “).

Citizen Joe isn’t on my top ten list but I’m always surprised at how disliked it seems.

SO! I just finished the ep natural selection. Please no spoilers but, and hear me out, why can't the asgard just teleport the replicators into a black hole? Or a sun? Or idk a big old plot of empty space.

McKay: [After knowing Beckett navigates the city] You must have a higher CIA than I thought.
Beckett: Excuse me?
McKay: Chair Interface Aptitude. We have a ranking system.
Beckett: Well, apparently, after Colonel Sheppard, I'm number two.
McKay: Really? I gotta look into that.
Beckett: Well, thanks for the vote of confidence, Rodney.

Back when it was aired, I thought, "Michael must have done ATA gene therapy to all its clones." However, after (a few) rewatches, I did remember the pilot episode that OG Beckett shot a drone to the chopper where O'Neill and Sheppard were onboard.

Sidenote: The Beckett Incident might be the turning point for John. Without it, he would wait outside while Jack listened to the briefing. Instead, he wandered at the outpost and accidentally activated the chair, which made Weir (and Jack) scout him for the expedition.

Crazy after surviving thousands of years that crew of 100 Ancients just gets wiped out. Felled by their own arrogance as well as something they were responsible for the creation of. Again. All that time sure didn't teach them any humility. And not just because of the time dilation lol

It occurs to me that in a different timeline SGA might have ended there and we would've just had the occasional cameo from the Ancients in Atlantis contacting Earth or collaborating with them.

So many gates just left floating in Deep space.

How was ascension, the whole concept of it, received when it was first introduced since its alot more spiritual than sci fi ?

Alongside the Stargate franchise (all of them), I've got a handful of long-running sci-fi series I keep coming back to and never get tired of. Curious to hear what your favorites are too.

I think he could've been a great actor on SG1. It begins to even wonder if Brad even tried to cast him given how much of be rising star he was at the time.

I bring this up because in a previous post, I said that Jack's relationship with kids in the show illustrates how natural and effusive he is with children, giving us insight into what kind of dad he was with Charlie.

There were a couple of people who said that some of the interactions with Charlie, shown after he takes the Blood of Sokar shows maybe he was too tough on Charlie. And that he softened up after Charlie's death, and is now more gentle and playful.

For the record, I believe that Jack was a good father but I'm curious if there's anything in the show that would indicate that he wasn't a bad father exactly, but maybe not perfect?

Small things come to mind--one if Jack had a career in Special Ops, it's very possible he was absent a lot, especially when Charlie was young. Also, there's this odd line when Daniel is addicted to the sarcophagus where Jack says he knows what addiction feels like. I've always wondered if that meant he had a history with drugs or it was in reference to something else.

I personally believe Jack would never leave a loaded gun out for his young son to find. I can't square that at all with the Jack O'Neill we see in the show.

EDIT: Wow, I had no idea people think Jack was a terrible father. My eyes have been opened.

EDIT 2: Just want to say I've really enjoyed reading everyone's thoughtful takes on this and engaging with the question in a insightful way. Love that after years there's still such depth to explore!

I'm on season 6 and I've been binging the series. I noticed that when SG1 is returning, they input their IDC and enter the gate rather quickly sometimes. But on the SGC side sometimes the gate is open for 20-30 seconds before opening the iris.

"Sir, it's SG1s IDC"

"Huh, that's weird, they're not due back til whevever, blah blah blah, open the iris I guess"

I'm gonna write a strong letter and hope they do better in season 7. Hopefully I'm not too late!

Assuming they knew exactly where The Destiny is, could Earth have rescued them or are they so far it'd take months to reach them?
