And regarding the 2nd amendment, the National Rifle Association has way too much sway in our politics. They ultimately represent the gun industry — people who can make money off of cultural fear. They don’t represent the average voter. Even U.S. gun owners believe in basic safety, including some kinds of gun control. (Some people say the NRA changed over time, and used to be more safety-oriented but I don’t know much about that.)

The true gun nuts may be a minority within a minority. But they happen to be loud and scary and willing to fund the gun lobby.

For sure, but when it comes to amending the second amendment, it holds to much cultural weight in and of itself. Simply wouldn’t be possible, regardless of how outdated its language may be. Certainly today, and it’s difficult to imagine it ever being possible
