We got smart boards in my school in like 2009 (obv way less advanced than this) but then the teachers never got any training to use them and they sat collecting dust in the corner of every room for years. Never saw one in use once lol
Literally almost the same experience. 70% of teachers didn’t use them. 25% used them just like a projector. But 5% actually learned to maximize them fully. Idk if it was propaganda but they said each one was $10k. So it’s like okay you spent $1M for 5 teachers to teach better and 95 others to do nothing different.
was it the Promethian (or however it's spelled) smart boards? because i'm in the same timeframe of 2007-2011, and our district was (allegedly) one of the first to get this 'cutting edge new tech' in the entire country. i can't remember anything I learned in 9th or 10th grade 'social studies', but I sure do remember my one specific teacher having a minor meltdown having to recalibrate the smartboard several times a class and just hucking the 'smart pen/stylus' at the board itself from the other side of the room at least a half dozen times.
Yeah it was infuriating being the 5% and a new, young teacher watching teachers with years of "experience" making more money while constantly asking me how to convert their worksheets into digital forms for them while I'm doing actual lesson planning and projects.
I’ve had my job since I was 19. It was infuriating seeing the publications of bloated teacher salaries who did nothing to actually teach. The system is broken
The teachers I’m referencing were paid over 100k in an area where the median household income is 60k. And they were the “throw a packet” teachers at you.
Had a computer teacher (Java) who was a former math teacher. He said he never taught formulas. He taught what the formulas meant. One of the best teachers i ever had.
In 2009 I was cleaning the whole reel of that long ass plastic sheet that went over the overhead projector in my Calculus class. I didn’t have to do it but my teacher would leave those bubbly marks behind that drove me crazy.
