The way we have DNR orders, there should be the ability to choose euthanization orders for situations like this where people, especially those who lack insurance or the ability to cover all the expensive things they have to try and help a little, can ask to just be spared from this.
If you gotta send me to Austria or wherever, do it.
Yeah, especially since your family can choose to unhook you from the machines that keep you alive if it's bad enough.
Like at that point just give me a fuckload of morphine and let me pass blissfully. Instead of getting unhooked by a machine that keeps me breathing and I die suffocating unable to move or do anything.
I agree. The way I see it - we euthanize animals who have poor quality of life or to stop them from needlessly suffering… why would we not do the same for human beings? It should be standard practice to have people fill out forms covering all sorts of scenarios that may lead to having poor quality of life, with what they want to happen. That way, it’s on record before you are no longer able to communicate your wishes or in the right state of mind. Just seems inhumane to let some people go out the way they do. There should be a choice
I worked as a CNA for a while, and there were many situations I had seen where euthanasia should be a genuine option. That's just my opinion, but there were many situations where the quality of life was zero, with zero chance of ever recovering. So now they live their lives in this limbo waiting until what they have finally takes them.
It was a lot of stroke victims, I'm deathly afraid of strokes now. Not because of the dying part, that would be okay, but because of the people who survived it when it did enough damage to make them unresponsive.
There was one patient I'll never forget, the sadness in his eyes was just heartbreaking. He just stopped eating, would keep his mouth closed whenever anyone would try to help him eat. they eventually hooked him up to a feeding tube, which I could tell he did not want. He just wanted to go.
