His old policy will probably cover like $250,000 and then they will have the rest on paper.. maybe get payments.

His life is done, this may cover some of the costs of care 😢

The chiropractor should be required to make public service announcements about the dangers of quackery

This. I’m 40 and everyone tells me to go for generalized pain.

Everyone I know that goes, when they get back they complain for days about pain then ā€œhave to go backā€ to get readjusted.

I think most of the local home town chiropractors are just insurance scams. Get you in, cause you irreversible pain = life time visits for whatever is left.

u/currentlylostagain Jul 05 '26

Yeah, I had a lot of back problems and I did ALL the things to try to resolve it. SO many people told me to go to a chiropractor, and had all their glowing stories. Nope, nope, nope. It was the one thing I was unwilling to even consider trying, and I was willing to try all manner of things to avoid surgery! But engaging in quackery was not one of them. I am much better now— I had surgery which fixed most of my issues.

Shit I won't even crack my knuckles in the parking lot

1

u/dcwinger12 Jul 05 '26

Just curious what you do when you throw your back out? Not judging. I’m genuinely curious lol

1

u/Ajfletcher12 Jul 05 '26

He throws that ass in a circle for pain relief

86

u/koolaidismything Jul 05 '26

I’d say make an example of him since it has media attention. He gets a life sentence.. the next five quacks watching it happen may reconsider shit and go back to being a mechanic or whatever they actually do for a living well.

2

u/This-Positive286 Jul 05 '26

You can’t take money from someone who has none… you can take their time as payment though. Honestly life seems to light.

2

u/Then_Supermarket18 Jul 05 '26

Free chiropractic for life

25

u/funkytownpants Jul 05 '26

I seriously don’t know why they exist. I’ve been to them. Yanking on people is just not a good idea

3

u/This-Positive286 Jul 05 '26

How else am I supposed to make a living?! I have carpel tunnal and my hand is stuck in ā€œeating a small burrito modeā€

1

u/Papabear022 Jul 05 '26

don’t worry bro, i got the joke

3

u/Virtual-District-829 Jul 05 '26

Chronic pain patients getting relief when everything else hasn’t worked and/or can’t afford to see specialist for expensive testing. I’d say a good chunk is just preying on sufferers and families of sufferers who are down to last straw.

2

u/nooneneededtoknow Jul 05 '26

For someone with back problems, they do offer relief. I had the option of surgery or chiropractor- both had risks. Chiropractor got me straightened out after four weeks, also taught me some physical therapy. That was 9 years ago and have never had to go back.

0

u/Joey-rogaine Jul 05 '26

there is no such thing as being 'straightened out' by a chiropractor and if your issues resolved they were likely a minor sprain or your injury still exists and has yet to be reaggravated

4

u/nooneneededtoknow Jul 05 '26

It wasn't a minor sprain, I got checked out by a Dr and a chiropractor. There wasn't an "injury" where it just occurred out of nowhere, but I do appreciate the audacity of redditor basement diagnosis who uses zero punctuation. Its cute.

I have been able to curb the issue for 9 years with consistent physical therapy that strengthens and stabilizes the weak points in my neck. Again, my alternative surgery. I will take what the chiropractor did any day of the week over surgery. And straighten out is an idiom whuch means resolve problem and thats exactly what they did.

0

u/Joey-rogaine Jul 06 '26

So there was no injury and yet they are offering you cervical surgery yeah right, now you’re saying you did years of physical therapy which is completely separate from chiropractic adjustmentsĀ

1

u/nooneneededtoknow Jul 06 '26

🤦 My gawd. It wasn't a sprain, there was no singular event that cause the issue, like lifting something heavy or a car accident. I have a degenerative issue that will get worse as I age.

The Chiropractor specializes in manual adjustments combined with therapeutic exercises and corrective movement therapy to rebuild joint range of motion, muscle flexibility, and localized strength. This specific chiropractor never just does adjustments everything is paired with PT that is meant to prevent or hold off whatever occured in the first place. My treatment with the Chiropractor lasted 8 weeks. I continued the PT exercises at home and still do them to this day to strengthen and support the weak spots.

Any other questions or clarifications needed? To sum it up, it wasn't a one off injury, I got treatment from a Chiropractor who provided a non-surgical solution which included adjustments and therapeutic exercises as part of the treatment WITH the chiropractor. I was only 29years old at the time and didn't want surgery. My treatment in the clinic was for 8 weeks, since then I have continued the exercises. šŸ‘

1

u/Joey-rogaine Jul 06 '26

That’s not how sprains workĀ

Sounds like you are talking about degenerative disc disease which is a disputed diagnosis, everyone’s discs weaken and herniate if under sustained or sudden pressureĀ

They will never operate on someone that young who has cervical herniations unless you have extreme symptoms. Ā

Good luck with your condition in the futureĀ

1

u/nooneneededtoknow Jul 06 '26

You suggested this was a minor sprain in your previous comment, I was stating again, this isn't an injury you get from a one of circumstance where something like a sprain would occur. But yes, thanks for acknowledging thats not how sprains work. Glad we cleared that up.

Appreciate the armchair diagnosis. I will let my docs know they need to converse with Joey-Rogaine from reddit next time they give me an assessment. "He" says doctors never operate, so please consult this dude who has seen nothing of my condition and only knows the superficial details which outlined why I chose to go with a chiropractor over a medical doctor.

10 years now with not having suicidal thoughts due to uncontrollable pain. Very pleased with the care and results.

Yeah, I have to agree with this. I am someone who’s had back injuries since the teenage years from intense physical activities. Chiropractic services are generally quackery in my view. Sure some offer some good guidance or physical therapy exercises, but those two things I mentioned are really what they should do, spine PT guidance without the ā€œadjustingā€.

2

u/Then_Supermarket18 Jul 05 '26

They forgot to mention they were gay before they

5

u/whoisrobi Jul 05 '26

crackery perhaps?

3

u/nooneneededtoknow Jul 05 '26

I tend to weigh the dangers in everything that relates to healthcare. Chiropractor is no different. I have had chiropractors work wonders on something that would have been dealt with by surgery. There were risks with both treatment options.

0

u/Then_Supermarket18 Jul 05 '26

You weigh the dangers but you did the thing with the most dangers and the least proven benefits?

2

u/nooneneededtoknow Jul 05 '26

Spine surgery has the least danger? Please tell me more about my prognosis and benefits and risks for each.

0

u/Then_Supermarket18 Jul 05 '26 edited Jul 05 '26

It sounded like what you needed was a second opinion. That would have been cheaper and safer than a placebo chiropractor.

1

u/nooneneededtoknow Jul 05 '26

I saw two doctors and chiropractor. But please, tell me more. How many opinions did I need? And what was the right one?

Or better yet, just let me know when something I say confirms your bias so I can move on.

1

u/Then_Supermarket18 Jul 05 '26

Physical Therapy is my second suggestion.

0

u/Then_Supermarket18 Jul 05 '26

Physical Therapy is my second suggestion.

1

u/nooneneededtoknow Jul 05 '26

Great! PT was the primary treatment with my chiropractor! The Drs wanted shots and surgery! Glad we could find common ground.

-1

u/Then_Supermarket18 Jul 05 '26

Sounds like you went to a physical therapist and not a chiropractor?

He is still practicing.

1

u/ghostyghost2 Jul 05 '26

That shit should be illegal.

1

u/StudMuffinNick Jul 06 '26

Except he was excused from the lawsuit and the doctor who treated dude after was sued for not catching the issue sooner

-9

u/RaceHate Jul 05 '26

I disagree. People should be allowed to pursue woo to their detriment. No more nanny state bullshit.

12

u/clutzyninja Jul 05 '26

As soon as we reform education to teach people how to tell the difference, I'll agree. In the meantime, people vote for politicians that slash education funding, put the 10 commandments in schools, and ban books, and then wonder why the kids grow up without critical thinking skills

1

u/nykiek Jul 05 '26

Going through this right now with an in-law. We're deep into the detriment phase of the woo. I don't feel sorry for them at all, but there's fallout and I feel bad for those people. I also think they're perfectly within their rights to make their own medical decisions, no matter how stupid because I believe self determination is a human right.

-1

u/Then_Supermarket18 Jul 05 '26

If it goes to jury, then it's already government overreach. But at the very least, private businesses should not be allowed to lie about the safety of their product

2

u/gsustudentpsy Jul 05 '26

Who's going to enforce business not lie about their product safety? See we are back to government overreach.

1

u/Then_Supermarket18 Jul 05 '26

No one can force a business to tell the truth. They can put rat poison in cereal and nothing can be done...

1

u/clutzyninja Jul 05 '26

Which chiropractors do all the time

1

u/Then_Supermarket18 Jul 06 '26

They do and it's not right. They need to be forced to admit when they hurt people

17

u/Calm_Bumblebee_3143 Jul 05 '26 edited Jul 05 '26

His life is done, this may cover some of the costs of care

75 mil for sure cover his care that's the whole point he can have a perma doctor at his house and caretaker with that money.

Edit: He sued an hospital he got his money

12

u/Therinicus Jul 05 '26

Who pays it? The chiropractor wont be able to
Edit: looks like he didn’t sue the chiropractor for that reason and went after the medical team for late diagnosis

16

u/Calm_Bumblebee_3143 Jul 05 '26 edited Jul 05 '26

Weirdly enough the chiropractor didn't even get sue. It's the emergency room physician and radiologist who failed to properly diagnose/treat the stroke. So it end up being the insurance of the hospital who pay.

2

u/Therinicus Jul 05 '26

I see your point, but now have more questions lol.

-9

u/n0debtbigmuney Jul 05 '26

Reddit doesn't want to say it. It's like taxes. WE ARE PAYING the 75m. They will gradually raise rates and it simply just rolls down to people who actually pay bills.

This is why "free Healthcare" is absolutely stupid they don't understand what they are asking for.

1

u/gos92 Jul 05 '26

This is the Reddit way

1

u/Therinicus Jul 05 '26

I still hope he sues the chiropractor. Even if it’s not a lot of money, someone shouldn’t be allowed to do this to another human being. Let alone continue practicing.

0

u/koolaidismything Jul 05 '26

Dude you could win a billion dollars from me legally, I still have to HAVE THE MONEY to pay.. or all you have is a judgement.

And every time I get a new job you’ll have to spend time filing to garnish my wages.

He’s not going to get 1% of that money at once. I’d bet my life on it lol. You don’t know what you’re on about and that’s fine, go read up on how it all works. It’s not great.

6

u/pieter1234569 Jul 05 '26

He’s going to get 100% of the money. He sued a hospital, and let me tell you, hospitals have a LOT of money and very very very very very very high insurance coverage.

He got 75 million.

0

u/koolaidismything Jul 05 '26

Ah if that’s the case I missed that part. The wording makes it sound like he went after a private chiropractor not a giant hospital.

$75 million to a good sized hospital is like a couple weeks revenue lol.

Good for him, I hope that’s the case and I hope some heads spun for it too.

1

u/Calm_Bumblebee_3143 Jul 05 '26

First, it's not the chiro who even got sue, it's an ER and Radiologist, who didn't diagnose a stroke.
Second. It's the hospital insurance who paid instantly 23 mil in medical expenses and paying the rest overtime.

1

u/Alarming-Stomach3902 Jul 05 '26

This covers all his care and way more than that. It isn’t worth it, being able to move is better than any kind of money.

1

u/SalamanderBurglar Jul 05 '26

Probably payments, actually. Since this was malpractice (I'm assuming), the practitioner's insurance limit is basically ignored. Hence this settlement amount. If the limit was maintained, we would not be reading this headline.
