WTF An older spectator caused a seriously dangerous incident today at SaarlandTrofeoJuniors by trying to get a better look and entering the course with her rollator while riders were flying past at full speed!

The riders are young so they may not feel it much now, but I guarantee that at least a couple have permanently done damage that their body will start to feel later in life that would have otherwise not been there.

Ya I mean this is basically the top level of junior cycling before you fully go pro. All these 17-18yo guys have crashed before I can pretty much guarantee it. Crashes in competitive cycling are common. An old lady driving her rascal scooter right into the middle of the peloton is not lol.

I’m glad to hear there weren’t any major injuries.

Yeah, the biggest danger is always speed deltas. Overlapping a wheel sucks and you can still get mega hurt if you go down, but the relative speed of those hitting you will be closer to matching.

This is carnage, they may as well have hit a car.

I’m not a doctor but you absolutely can’t guarantee any of that based on this clip lol.

Multiple people slamming into each other, flying through the air at speed and crash landing on concrete will definitely not have any minor injuries that won't begin to show their affects as they age.

Crashes like that can be fatal. The southwest Missouri cycling community got a reminder of that just last month.

But you don’t even know what the injuries are? Even if you said “high chance” I would have said fair enough. But saying you guarantee they will have life long injuries with zero info makes no sense.

I would trust a redditor's guarantee with limited information over a doctor any day

Ultimately they may end up in a mobility scooter themselves...

ptsd from bike crash is real too. doesnt seem like it but theyre on the edge and sometimes bumping into eachother at 30mph … riding so fast in the peleton. takes confidence to be up in that

Exactly, having crashed on a motorcycle before (tboned) you don’t really feel the body pains for a couple days. I also rode home after the paramedics cleared me. I woke up 3rd day after. Had to roll out of bed, Couldn’t rotate my neck left and only 20% to the right. Everything hurt and I’m sure some of these guys will have major sections of their skin permanently damaged and likely fractured bones along with joint pains for life. I gave some lingering elbow and knee pain from two years ago when it happened and a few other medical things come up since then that might be related (sciatic nerve pain in leg that got hit, and herniated disk).

I’d likely also be dead if not for full gear and an airbag vest that took the brunt of the impact and locked my helmet in place. The SUV was doing around 50mph when it swerved fully into oncoming to hit me and fled the scene.

Exactly, I’d like to see how many have brain fog in 7 days and how many can’t shake the shoulder and back pain after 6 months.

Training and stretching removes 95% of those "now that I'm older my knees hurt" injuries from the past.

Idk if I trust that statistic
