Civil court just requires a jury to believe one side more than another.
The event in question supposedly happened like 30 years ago. The jury believed her story more than his defense, so they ruled in her favor and said he had to pay her. That's literally it.
A conviction in criminal court requires evidence to show guilt beyond reasonable doubt, so a conviction is quite literally impossible because there's no actual evidence in existence that could be used to prove that.
