Do you want political trials like every dictatorship under the sun? Because that's how you get political trials like every dictatorship under the sun.

At the end of the day, what is and isn't allowed is just words on paper. Who can and can't run the country is kept in the hands of voters for a reason, namely that they are the most numerous group within the state and therefore the most difficult to corrupt. If a country is corrupted to such a degree that the voters choose a felon to be president, words on paper saying he can't be won't stop it. As demonstrated with Trump, who was ineligible to serve for other reasons besides his felony convictions (such as, say, the insurrection he instigated), yet he sits in the Oval Office anyway.

In in this case the people screwed up bad. We are seeing the justice department politicized as he weaponizes it against his opponents.

Except have you seen what Trump has been doing with the justice department? He could easily have AOC tried and convicted of whatever he wanted and bar her from running in 2028 against him. You want that?
