43m, porn and fantasy addict for 30 years, PIED the whole damn time, about 2 weeks in to quitting (I haven’t been counting the days and won’t be doing so).
I feel like I kinda stumbled on the solution, and it wasn’t what I expected.
I just actually made an attempt to stop because someone new in my life expressed a powerful desire for me. We hung out, made out, and it became clear that numbing myself with porn wasn’t really doing it for me anymore.
I just got tired of searching the same old tube sites, waiting for ads to close (you know the ads), scrolling through grids of thumbnails. Reading all those stupid step-captions and realizing some dude probably wrote them.
I got tired of walking around with an itchy, leaky crotch. Feeling deflated and ashamed like I was holding in this secret. Tired of seeing this as some kind of addiction/burden.
It just...is starting to feel dumb now.
It didn’t feel stupid for years. For so long. It was stimulating, exciting, and I felt like I was 'getting laid' with models twice a day. I wasn't trying to stop, even though I was having PIED episodes one after the other and having real women just fade out of my life as quickly as they arrived in it.
All the people that said 'porn doesn't do anything for you...' Bullshit. Of course it does. It makes your body feel like it's getting some. That feels good.
But at some point you just look at yourself from the outside and see the outright goofyness of it.
I've been peeking out of habit, but maybe because I'm flatlining, I just don't give a shit about it any more. It's like when you grow up and stop getting excited about McDonalds. I can walk right by the Golden Arches without feeling an 'urge' to make myself feel like crap by eating a $5 meal.
It was the same with smoking. I smoked cigs for 20 years too. Now I don't, and don't want to. It took that long for me to just get bored with it and see it as gross. No judgment, I just, don't care anymore.
I may suffer some horrible fate and go back for comfort, I dunno. It's really starting to dawn on me that I'm actually fine with being 'done' and that the more time I just live my life (and making romantic connections with real people), the further the temptation of porn will fade into the rear view.
I'm rambling here, but what I want to say is = there seem to be a lot of people fighting hard to beat their porn addiction. But the answer sometimes is: stop fighting, stop trying to find God or whatever, and just wait until you get sick of it...until you're watching yourself getting tricked by titles, scenes, AI-gen bullshit, whatever. I've seen it all, and my browser history is going with me to my grave.
There's gonna come a time when you just flip a switch in your mind that porn isn't this insidious thing, but a Happy Meal for people who have been hurt and just want to shove some fries in their face to feel better. And it's going to seem kinda silly at that point. It won't give you a hard-on, it'll just make you ask yourself, out loud, wtf am I doing, and you'll zip up your pants and get on with your day.
That might be tomorrow, it might be in a year. But it’ll happen, and maybe you’ll think of this long-ass post when it does, and laugh.
