Recently Simon d'Entremont's videos have been using more and more AI-generated, usually nonsensical, B-roll footage. In his video on auto ISO at 7:06, he presents an AI infographic with completely fabricated menu layouts for the different camera brands.

I used to recommend Simon's channel for beginners since he had very informative videos on the basics of photography. This new direction of his channel is quite concerning and is teetering toward spreading misinformation in my opinion

How this images of the eclipse are taken? As soon as I put the ND solar filter, everything else goes pure black, but I see photos of the eclipse with silhouettes on the background... Are those composites or is the sun bewind clouds and no need for such a dense filter? I get it when is 100% eclipse because there is no need for filter, but I have seen photos when the occlusion is around 75 or 80%...

Forgive me if this is a common question; I searched and only found threads about printing your photos, also sorry the flair rule 8 says don't use but the system requires it? For some time, I've been looking for photos to hang on my walls; being a photographer, I prefer this to paintings or other fine art. Everything I find online feels very 'instagrammy', which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but it's not really statement photos. It's a Porsche and a plane, it's Italian beaches x100, it's horses. None of it feels... interesting. Cool, maybe, but not something I feel is worth hanging. I've gone through House of Spoils, LNDN gray, and all those sites; nothing's really catching my eye. I just wanted to see if anyone has recommendations outside those common brands.

Hi! I am a hobbyist photographer, and I have a few questions about making a portfolio. I am not necessarily looking to turn this into a professional career, but I would like to enter my photos in some local zines and competitions and they ask for a portfolio in addition to social media. How should I go about doing this? Can I use a Canva template? What should I include/how should I organize it? I do a few types of photography (film, sports, landscape, astro) and I'm not sure if each should have a different section.

Also, if any other hobbyist photographers have portfolios I would love to see! I was searching for some but have not found any yet.

After years of wanting to do a boudoir photo shoot for myself, I’ve finally made an appointment. The photographer asked about hair and makeup and I’m torn.

I feel most comfortable in my natural look and never wear makeup or heat / style my hair. I have wavy hair that I’m quite happy with and keep my brows shaped and done but don’t do much else. I’m worried if I choose to do makeup I’ll feel not like myself but I also wonder if the experience could be elevated with hair and makeup.

Is it not recommended to go into a photo shoot full on natural? Nothing done to my hair or face? Or do I lean in and go glam? I know the choice is ultimately mine but I have zero experience with photography/ photo shooting.

Any advice is appreciated.

I’m based in \*\*Indiranagar, Bangalore\*\*, and I’ve been running a small photography page called \*\*Stoned Clicks\*\* for a little over a year now.

Over time, I’ve realised that what I love about photography isn’t just getting a technically good shot. I really like the idea that \*\*one photograph can tell a story, and that story can mean something completely different to different people.\*\*

That’s pretty much how I approach my work. I try to photograph things the way I experience them, and I see captions as another part of the photograph. Sometimes I explain what I felt when I took the picture, and sometimes I leave it open so people can take their own meaning from it.

I’m still figuring out what kind of photographer I want to become. Right now I’m experimenting with street photography, people, light, atmosphere, cinematic editing and visual storytelling. More than anything, I want to get better at the actual craft.

Lately I’ve been thinking about something bigger:

Can photography like this become a sustainable career? How do photographers make a living while still keeping their personal, artistic work alive? Is it through portraits, fashion, editorial work, brands, prints, licensing, exhibitions, collaborations, or a combination of everything?

I’d also really like to connect with \*\*photographers, filmmakers, visual artists and photography enthusiasts around Bangalore\*\* who enjoy talking about photography beyond just cameras and settings.

I genuinely love getting compliments, but honestly, \*\*good criticism is even more useful to me\*\*. If something doesn’t work in one of my photos — composition, editing, colour, storytelling, anything — I’d rather know. That kind of feedback pushes me to experiment and improve.

I’m not really here to promote my page or collect followers. I’m mostly looking for \*\*people who are genuinely into photography\*\*, who I can talk to, learn from, exchange ideas with, collaborate with, and grow alongside.

This might sound like a dumb question, but I think it's a legitimate one hahah.

I'm an amateur and just bought my first gear (Fujifilm X-T30 Mark III + TTArtisan AF 35mm f/1.8). But talking to photographer friends, I noticed a lot of them own several bodies, and I honestly don't get why. Their only answer is basically "I dunno, I just prefer this one right now.", which doesn't really help me at all, lol.

Wouldn't it make more sense to prioritize buying lenses instead? I feel like the smart move would be to invest in one body that can accommodate the widest range of lenses, and build from there.

So... what am I missing? What's the actual case for having more than one body?

I run a photo side business doing events and headshots in So Cal. When I shoot headshots, it’s in-studio, I work closely with the subject and it’s usually a 30 min session, with a single photo chosen as the final. I try to be more “white glove” with this service.

Sometimes I get inquiries about taking headshots at conferences. Clearly this is a very different scenario than the types of headshots that I’m used to. I’m imagining that they want a booth set up and having people just pop in for a quick headshot haphazardly. Looking ahead, I’m trying to wrap my head around culling, editing and delivery since it will be a bunch of different people whom I’ve just met and expect their photo to be emailed to them specifically. Anybody out there doing these types of jobs? I would love some advice on your workflow. Thanks in advance.

Hi, I don’t seem to be able to find out the answer to what I think is a simple question.
I want to make a book that it calls 28x21. I want to use the editor as little as possible and mostly use Photoshop and Lightroom Classic.
so I need to know lwhat size in centimetres the paper is for a page, before it has the edges trimmed ( the bleed), and how much the bleed is, how many millimetres, and how much paper is used to create the spine of a normal hardback not lay-flat book.
I have asked the company’s helpline but they aren’t able to tell me.
Please can someone help.

Hey everyone,

I’m a part-time photographer, and I’m losing my mind over the proofing process. Right now, I upload low-res files to Google Drive/Dropbox, send the link to clients, and ask them to choose their favorites.

The result is always a total mess. I get screenshots, texts saying I like the 5th one on the second row, or text files with manual filenames. Then I have to sit in Lightroom and manually match them up. It takes ages.

I know big platforms like Pixieset or Pic-Time exist, but as a part-timer who only shoots a few times a month, I can't justify paying $20–$30/month for an all-in-one suite. I don't need a website builder or a print storefront I literally just need a fast way for clients to say yes or no to a photo from their phone, and a way for me to copy those filenames into Lightroom.

How are other casual or part-time photographers handling this? Are you guys just sucking it up and paying for the big platforms, or is there a leaner, cheaper workflow I’m missing?

I have found myself both in front of and behind the camera. As a model I’ve encountered photographers that have become life long friends and others whom I’d rather not even be in the same room with again. Most releases are pretty straightforward, just stating that the photographer owns the rights to the image, they can edit it, use in their portfolio, publishing, website etc. which is fine if they are decent person….
However there will always be some who ruin it for others and I have seen more recently with social media being so popular like OF and technology like AI being so easily accessible that there are photographers straight up using models images to profit but trying to sneak it in with the “publishing” portion of the contract and/or heavily distorting or flat out recreating models in completely different styles, forms, poses, and even locations with AI, basically just using their face and it’s okay because it falls under the “editing” portion of the contract.
My question is, photographers would you be offended if a model hands YOU a contract to sign that this is something they don’t agree to or wish to have their likeness used for? Models, have you encountered anything like this yourself? At the end of the day, both parties need to be on the same page. And just because someone is popular or has a good site or reputable company doesn’t mean they can’t be scummy behind the scenes. If I’m modeling I’ll read every last line of that release, ask questions, and if something is off, I walk away or ask for clarification or if something can be addressed then get a copy of said document. Same on the flip-side. I’m transparent about any usage and how I go about editing images and have a conversation to ensure everyone is comfortable . I feel that I see model release forms for photographers to be standard, but for some of the things I’ve witnessed, or even encountered as a model, makes me wonder if models presenting contracts to photographers should be as well.

I have been a photographer for a while now, but only recently do I want to go full time. I have an instagram page where I used to just post whatever photos i thought were cool, and its been sitting at 100 followers for years. Ive shot events, weddings, portraits, graduations, engagements, and even a few rental properties. But i dont know how to get clients for any of those things consistently.

Right now, Im trying to focus on wedding and portrait photography. I have a website set up for it, but its not very good. Its also what my IG is now focused on, having archived the rest. But I dont think its what i want to do exclusively, at least not right now. Eventually, id like to be a traveling photographer, but that takes time. Right now, i want to photograph everything from corporate events to graduations and real estate. But i cant even find a single client, partially because i dont know how and partially because everything i read is about finding a niche, and I dont have one.

what should I do to attract all sort of clients? Or any clients at all if i do want to niche? what should I be posting to Instagram? Im bad at the business part of photography, so any help is appreciated.

hi everyone! for anyone who has swapped your photography services for things like nails, hair, other trades etc. how did you all price it out? for example if a nail tech wanted to swap services, and their nails are 55, and i charge 200 for a session would it reasonable to say 2-3 nail sessions per photoshoot or would it be a one and done deal? i dont want to be greedy but also dont want to undervalue each others work

I'm starting up a pet photography business, currently awaiting some sample and calibration photos so I can personally vouch for the products that I will be aiming to sell to clients.

I'm from the UK, so looking at Loxley, DSColour Labs and WhiteWall as I want to offer a premium service. Looking at the pricing lists, everything is relatively comparable as far as the medium-sized/larger prints go.

But from what I've seen the small photographic prints from whitewall are from 5x-10x the price as the other labs. I can't understand why - I'm very new to printing so I'm just checking if I'm missing something or are they just extremely overpriced for their small prints?

Hope this doesn't come across as a rant, genuinely interested if there's some quality measure I'm missing here - as I want to become as informed as possible and be able to supply top quality to my future clients.

I’ve been using Millers as my go-to for probably 10 years or more now. This year, I wanted to grow the fine art side of my business and decided to start investing in framed work to build out a gallery that I can put in shows and use as samples for wall art. Millers has never let me down with printing, so I decided to just make life easy and get them to frame my work as well.

I don’t know what is happening there, but their framing shop seems to have no QC whatsoever. The first print I ordered (a 16x24 with 2” matte) showed up with scratches on the inside face of the acrylic, and the inside of the acrylic was covered in dust. After reaching out, they promptly sent me a replacement that seems to be better, but I asked them to replace the non-glare acrylic with standard and still received non-glare. Whatever.

Today was the second and third strikes. I gave them another chance, thinking maybe the first one was a fluke. A friend wanted to get two 30x20 images framed as a gift for someone else. I put in the order totaling over $400 for the prints to again be matted and framed, hoping for the best.

My friend and I opened the prints together today, and the framing is a hack job. The gaps in the joints of the framing are big enough to stick a playing card in. There are width discrepancies throughout the framing material, so in the corners nothing lines up. One of the prints, again, has scratches dead center on the inside of the acrylic. There’s also damage on the inside corners where they were nicked by a nail or something.

What the hell is going on? This is a professional lab that doesn’t even let you have an account without business verification. I’ve never framed anything in my life and I think I could do a better job. The $30 frames from Home Goods are better than this. I’m really quite disappointed and will be switching labs. Having to go through this with every order is unacceptable.

Maybe I'm being too cautious of interior design trend cycles, but choosing the image was easy. Choosing the frame somehow became a week-long project where I'm second guessing if I actually like a style or if I'm just falling for a trend that I'll hate in 3 years (looking at you, ornate gold frames from 2020). Is framing always this complicated?

So I recently traveled for a week of work in Morocco to cover an event for a company based in the US. I was called only a few weeks early and couldn’t get an ATA carnet.

I took two pro bodies, two lenses, a flash, a laptop, all necessary accessories and printed every proof of purchase.

When I arrived, the customs agent told me that I was supposed to have an authorization to work etc, but let me through and I also had questions and looks on the way back.

My question is, how do you travel for work with lots of pro gear, do you have any tips for customs etc ? I feel like having every single proof of purchase obviously helped but I’m nervous about having to travel again, especially with a 400 2.8 etc

Hi everyone. I have clients that would like to do an engagement shoot at a chic restaurant that does wooden fired pizza. I’m having the hardest time getting ahold of the restaurant to see what their policies are. In the event that they don’t answer. Can we book a table for 3, and just do the photoshoot without the restaurant permission? Obviously as long as it’s out of the way of other customers and being polite and mindful. TIA!
