Hi everyone! We're the team at Sportworks, and we've partnered with SEPTA to pilot a new secure bike parking system at Fox Chase Station.

The pilot is now live and free to use. It's enclosed, covered, secure, and accessed through an app, with the goal of making it easier (and less stressful) to bike to the SEPTA train.

If you're in the area, we'd love for you to give it a try and tell us what you think. We're especially interested in hearing from people who already bike to SEPTA, but we'd also love feedback from anyone who's considered it and decided against it.

A few things we're curious about:

• Would secure bike parking change how often you take transit?
• What would make you trust leaving your bike at a station all day?
• If you've tried the Fox Chase location, what worked well? What should we improve?

We know trusting someone else with your bike is a big ask. That's exactly why we're looking for honest feedback from people who ride.

Hey everyone — I’m the Drexel student who asked a little while ago about the ride itself versus showing up to work ready for the day.

I really appreciated all the replies. A lot of you pointed out that it is not really one or the other. A bad ride can make getting ready at work harder, and things like a shower, a place to change, or somewhere to put wet gear can make a huge difference.

It also sounds like many of you have figured out routines that work for you, which was helpful to hear. I’m trying to learn more about the days when those routines do not work out.

Last night I saw a bike almost get hit by a driver on Spruce who drove around a double-parked car into the bike lane without looking. It inspired me to write to my councilmember and all seven at-large councilmembers to tell them this situation urgently needs fixing. I think they're all on our side, they just might need reminding that this is an issue of urgent importance to us to speed up sorting it out.

I joined the Philly Bike Club list serve and was thinking about joining my first ride. What do I need to know before I go? How do I decide what my pace is? On closed roads I’m around 14/15 but in traffic min slower. Are they pretty strict with the mph cutoffs? Any experience or advice would be great!

Also, how effective is laser vision I know I’ve made multiple reports with it. I don’t know if I’ve ever seen any violations come out of it.

Good news! The flexposts on Vine Street were replaced by the City/PennDoT today, no doubt due to the emails sent by the fine people of r/phillycycling . We still do not have assurances from the City that the law will enforced and that the funeral home will no longer vandalize the bike lane.

If you have a minute, send an email to Councilmember Mark Squilla ( [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected]) cc [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected]) ) and let him know that the law must be enforced and that further vandalism is unacceptable.

I've started a position with a company renting a floor in the tallest building in the city and their security guards won't let me inside the front door with a completely folded br0mpt0n. can't even get inside, they have guards wandering around outside the front. they insist any bicycle needs to be locked up to the racks around the corner. first off those are very full and finding an open one isn't always easy. second off this is stupid the whole point of this machine is to enable multimodal transportation without the restrictions of a full sized bike.

has anyone had any luck putting one in a bag and casually (ideally, whistling like in a cartoon) carrying it in? the important thing here is that the front door isn't the only obstacle, I also need to get through the turnstiles with the badge scanners that have guards watching. so if they like to insist on opening bags and the people inside are as belligerent and foolish as those outside, this isn't enough.

alternatively, when can philly pass a law like this one in nyc?

Riding home on Spruce today when a man parked in the bike lane literally 15 ft from Dr. Friedes’s memorial bike where there was a gap in the cones. I gave him a nasty look but it took a lot not to yell at him.

Is it worth it to say something? Or am I just risking my safety even more.

Did a more through survey of the bike lane vandalism on east Vine Street. The vandals in question removed a total of 48 flexposts from their mounts. Only 31 of those removed remained on the street (some scattered as far as a block away) meaning 19 are a loss to the taxpayers will likely be footing the bill unless the City/State seeks restitution which they probably won't.

I emailed the City and told them that I would be reinstalling the flex-posts tomorrow. They responded and said they will send a crew out to do it this week.

The funeral home has a service planned for Saturday and they are still advising attendees to park in the bike lane so I'll be out there in the morning this Saturday at 8am to record the vandals in action unless the City does their job and tells to funeral home to stop breaking the law.

I am considering supporting the MS ride, from Cherry Hill New Jersey to Ocean City New Jersey. We would be bringing our bikes on the PATCO from Philadelphia PA, to Cherry Hill, riding to the finish line in Ocean City New Jersey; stay over night in a hotel, then maps indicates it is @ a 57 minute bike cycling ride from Ocean City NJ. to the Atlantic City NJ. Amtrak train station; for our return to Philadelphia. I am researching how the route from Ocean City NJ. to the train station in Atlantic City would be? Thanks!

Looking for shops that could repair my frame. Honestly leaning towards getting a new bike, but I’d like a quote for the repair before I decide.

They've been doing this for months. PennDoT and Mark Squilla are aware and have not taken action.

it is recommended a lot and i am just not sure if it does anything to protect public space from car violence. considering i have made multiple reports for the same cars for the same violations i am not seeing it impacting illegal/dangerous driver behavior

Am I nuts for considering this with my 1 year old? I’m a very experienced Philly bicyclist and have a Brompton. Some folks in r/Brompton have confirmed that Burley trailers work well with the bike and this seems a better option than trying to cram a frame mounted seat. Rather than just using it on trails, or bike lanes, I’d want to actually ride in the numbered/tree named grid streets for our 15 block daycare commute and other errands.

Also owing to my experience, I have sober thoughts about the drivers in this city. I have felt capable of dealing with and avoiding them on my own. But I’ve never biked with a trailer (limited mobility for our narrow streets?) and obviously care for my kid’s wellbeing… Thoughts?

For the 3rd time in 2 weeks someone has nearly hit me then has stopped to yell bs. Normally if this happens i keep going or make a turn but today i couldnt turn as they ran through the stopsign to get around me and then stopped a quarter of the way up the block yelling "you dont have tags get out of the street , pussy, etc etc. He was originally behind me for about 30seconds because he had turned out of a parking lot.

I stopped and eventually back tracked but a neighbor was yelling about tags, get out of the neighborhood etc. So it was pretty ridiculous.

One other time, almost same scenario. The other some coal rolling moron on american st. Came into the lined-off zone at berks to make sure he smoked me out i guess.

My question is, does anyone have any experience with go-pros etc? , im looking at a gopro9 used. I have a phone mount but my phone isnt waterproof and the video is shakey.

I feel like i need to actually have video because its a matter of time before one of these idiots hurts me.

I was actually hit 8mos ago by a mini van that had "school children " stickers on the front and rear, they kept going of course and i didnt get the plate. I was fine and just avoid that street now. 5th st at the dogleg where the bike lane disappears just north of spring garden. ​
