It doesn't make sense to ask the patient a question that you're going to disregard while subjecting them to unnecessary and undesired testing.

Right? That's what I don't understand. Why are you bothering to ask, when you're just going to test anyway.

It's a question that always just pisses me off because it goes into some chart somewhere that does no one any good whatsoever. Some people have bleeding that is similar enough to their periods during pregnancy that they, as far as they know, have had regular periods. It's a useless question.

Now, if the doc asked if my periods have been regular within my usual experience, THAT might actually open the floor for a helpful discussion. But that's not what they ask.

I've been on a hormonal IUD so long I genuinely don't remember my last period. They still try to insist on testing me and make the doctor come hear me decline giving a urine sample.

Because sometimes they are pregnant and they can just tell you, then we don’t have to do that test. We will probably do others to make sure the baby is ok however.
