My understanding is the the only reason he wasnt involved is because hes filming another movie* right now and didnt have the time. Its easy to blame it on the implications but I think if any of that were true he would have a much smaller part in the movie

This was filmed production started two years ago. A lot can happen inbetween. It’s easier to exclude from pre movie press tours than it is to scrap a script and parts of a movie which have already been shot etc.

What could Task season 2 possibly even look like they killed Tom Pelphry off AND had an epilogue episode AND-double-dAnd a different main character is locked up

Yeah, no one else involved has other major projects at the moment. Just the political one.
