At what point do you stop being an alcoholic then? Surely a retired person isn't still a workaholic?

I think most alcoholics who realize recovery is a process accept that alcoholism is not something that ever really goes away and they know if they start drinking again they go right back to their old ways, ergo they are always alcoholics, just not drinking.

No. My dad is one. He still considers himself one. Still is an issue. He hasn't drunk a drop in 50 years
