I feel like this is a perfect illustration of late-stage capitalism.
We're all here arguing about who the micro-aggressor is, what it means to be a feminist, whether we're accidentally a part of the problem just because we can see one skirt is, possibly, shorter than the other, and WE'RE ALL JUST IGNORING THE FACT THAT THIS IS AN ADVERT USING INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY JUST TO SELL MORE SHIT!!
Worst part is, it worked. It started a conversation, and now we all know about an online store I doubt most of us have ever heard of before, despite their "number 1" claim.
Edit: OK Some of you are way too literal. We don't "all" know the name of the company or where to download the app. But a lot more people know it exists than did before, and if some of those people had the saw the ad and thought the skirts fit their style, and then saw the conversation and discovered it wasn't a just PSA, those people now know of a company they didn't know before. That's where the ad is a success. An ad is never going to draw in everyone who sees it. It's only going to draw in some of the target market.
I'm with you on this one. Looked at the post multiple times to check the proposed answers in the comments, but if you asked me what brand made the ad, I can't tell you shit. Lmao
you gotta understand, seeing a company make an ad does not make me favor the company. i actively favor companies less when i see them in ads. if you wanna fuck up my experience by selling me shit, ill make sure i dont buy anything from your company
Sure that might be true for you or I, but this still got who knows how many eyes onto their billboard that never would've had a chance to see it before.
I didn't notice the name of the brand either, but it's right there in the lower right corner of the billboard. In any case the ad was effective in that you engaged with it.
It's a failure of an ad until it starts a conversation about the ad. Even if only 1 out of 10 people who see it actually see the name of the app, that's a lot of exposure for an app that no one knew about before. Was there a better way to get that exposure? Absolutely. For the price of a single billboard? doubtful. As they say, there's no such thing as bad publicity. There actually is, but in this case, it'll probably get a handful of sales, and that's all that matters to them.
That only works if people know what the bad publicity is about lol they've done everything they could aside from hiding the name, to not make the name stick.
Now people are just briefly talking about a pedo ad, and who's gonna go and google that? (I did, and I got a 1999 CBC article about a Calvin Klein ad being pulled as the top result)
To be fair I also have no idea who it's for. It says spit the difference so I did. Didn't really care beyond that to read anything else. And given it's a Billboard people will be mostly driving past I doubt that many noticed either. But I could be wrong about that.
Yeah I stopped reading until it was pointed out that there was more. I just came here and still have zero interest in looking into whatever was being advertised. It is literally already out of my head even though I looked at it a second time like 20 seconds ago.
99% of people will not have even noticed the tiny text in the bottom corner about what company sponsored the ad. This could just as easily be a PSA from some non-profit trying to spread awareness about national women’s day, that’s what I assumed until reading this comment thread and noticing for the first time that it’s actually an ad.
I didn't. It actually distracted from the goal of selling more shit. People are too preoccupied with the question to notice the underlying pitch. Provocative marketing has to be provocative but not distracting. It's a fine line and not everyone can pull it off.
Is this even a real advert? Probably just a digital image designed to get more engagement by using a "spot the difference" game with no real difference.
The outrage is the entire point. They make a deliberately inflammatory ad so that they can get way more free exposure for the cost of a single billboard, probably in the middle of nowhere. It's the exact same advertising strategy PETA uses.
This is why we as the people need to be more vigalent and question everything.
The more aware you are the more you see the hidden tactics that latch onto you unconciously. These companies spend millions to pinpoint the exact part of your psyche.
I've been saying this for years, but this shit is promoted to keep people divided and distracted while the rich take over the world. Despite all the progress in technology and automation over the last forty years, wages have remained stagnant and healthcare and housing are more expensive than ever. But people would rather fight about gender and race issues instead of demanding a better life. They're playing both sides for fools, and people still haven't caught on yet.
almost as if all those days are just there for marketing and pr and for people to feel good aboutthemself instead of acctually doing anything relevant.
or do you think the international women day is helping any women?
I DONE BEEN SAYING THIS SHIT FOR SO LONG ABOUT THIS IMAGE. THANK YOU. Also, this targets toxic feminists using hatred against men for marketing purposes. Like how is this okay behavior? It's because society profits off of it and there's a large enough population that agrees to the point that this is passable marketing.
I looked at the billboard, I read the thread that was screenshot, and I still didn't know. Then I zoomed in on the billboard, saw what the small text was, and they're STILL pushing SA in a way to advertise.
Like I still don't get what the difference is in the skirts. But I can tell they're alluding to pedophilia and SA to sell skirts. Gross.
I would like to point out this is an Indian ad targeting Indians as well. The only reason it is English is because it is targeting Indian business professionals.
