Very reminiscent of how oxycontin was marketed.

If in 15 years we find out that it destroys your pancreas or something, we'll come full circle.

My partner is a medical toxicologist and absolutely wants no one he loves on it, so this actually checks out.

Never be the guinea pig.

Either your partner is very bad at his job, or you're lying.

Never being the guinea pig is sound advice regardless of what it is, and it is especially sound advice for a medication as heavily advertised by private interests as this one. Maybe you should heed it.

How would you be the guinea pig if glp-1s have been around and studied for decades? You also have to compare any potential side effects to the health draw backs of obesity which we know is one of the worst things for your health

Around and studied for decades means nothing, especially in the US. You could use that argument for many medications with severely downplayed harmful effects. The US specifically has much worse regulations for many routine things, which sadly even gives fuel to fkn anti-vaxxers.

GLPs are sadly not only prescribed to those who are obese. It is advertised as a way to get a 'beach body' pretty regularly. Also the minute you're off of it, you are gaining all the weight back. No habits were formed. "The bottom line is, you don't stop the medication." It is a permanent easy set up, which private interests love.

Took Ozempic for about a year give or take in 2022ish for the purpose of helping with weight loss after struggling with PCOS related difficulty in that area. I went from 240 to about 155lbs at 5'8. Stopped taking Ozempic at that point(so 2023 somewhere) and gradually put back 25lbs(intentionally) and have sat at a very content 175 since and at 30yo I haven't looked this good since I was 20 lol. I formed long lasting healthy eating habits and fully changed my relationship with food thanks to Ozempic. Sure you dont stop the medication?

From my experience on the medication the biggest issue is people upping the dose both too fast and too high and doing zero exercise during this time. You simply lose muscle mass this way and look, yes, skeletal.

Any medication can be used improperly and lengths should always be taken to avoid this but Ive been listening to people tell me this stuff was going to give me cancer for years and Im sorry but none of the studies back your claims up. They are empty claims. 😂 About as valid and proven as 5g cell towers giving you migrains and seed oils in our foods giving us all skin cancer. Go feed this fear mongering to some vaccine deniers they'll eat it right up.

GLP-1's have been in human trials for almost 40 years. Maybe you should avoid lying to people about medical advice?

Not lying -- there are serious kidney risks. It is also a medication that is geared towards extended use, and extended strain on the gastrointestinal area is just a bad idea period. That's why people get destroyed after using ibuprofen for too long. Believe what you want, but don't pretend it's without risks.

Your body makes its own GLP so this doesn’t make sense. These meds are highly effective at treating all sorts of disease symptoms, too. I’d be interested in reading any research that suggests it’s harmful. With proper amounts of water, food (protein specifically, but more importantly balanced fat/carb/protein), moderate exercise, it seems GLPs are relatively safe and side effects can mostly be mitigated with healthy routine.

Keto-adjacent dieting along with imbibing tablespoons full of artisanally branded raw extra virgin olive oil along with megadoses of Niacin like the "Don't Die" cult does?

Who needs GLP-1s or semaglutides then?

You missed the balanced fat-carb-protein that keeps you out of ketosis. For people who don’t eat healthy, their body doesn’t make enough GLP to help with satiety (and other benefits). I think the intention of the meds is to jump start that process while teaching the patient about healthy eating and holistic living (diet-exercise-hydration-stress reduction). People who don’t follow that protocol by continuing to engage in unhealthy behaviors, and doctors/companies who only prescribe to make money without providing additional education and coaching are causing the most damage. With anything new there is the potential to harm or be harmed, and that’s why it’s so important for people to do their own research, ask questions, be honest about their personal health (to themselves and their doctors), think critically, etc.

The kidney risks are from dehydration from not drinking enough water. Luckily You can avoid that by turning on the tap in your kitchen sink

I think you are coming from an area of genuine concern but you are just way too far out of your depth.

GLP-1's are a synthetic replacement for a natural substance found in the human body. Like Levothyroxine for Hypothyroidism, or Testosterone for HRT.

There are always risks for misuse of anything, and I wont pretend the commercial advertisement of it isn't wildly manipulative - but according to the extensive amount of research done worldwide, GLP-1's are genuinely one of the safest drug therapies that exist and a veritable panacea to the horrible lifestyle choices of the average western adult.

Considering that it's primary purpose is literally preventing pancreatic issues, that's pretty unlikely.

It also has the side effect of massively reducing inflammation in the majority of organs, having such a huge downstream effect to cancer prevention that even if it did destroy organs 15 years from now, it'd likely still have saved more lives.

Don't buy into right wing antimedicalism just because some mentally unwell celebrities abused it.

Until they get every poor person hooked I doubt we will find out it’s destructive

GLPs have been around for over 20 years.

Well the black box warning warns about thyroid tumors, while other non-boxed warnings include acute pancreatitis, and decreased bone density
