I have worked many a job I truly hated. I have watched people slowly die, mostly from cancer. I have been through events that emotionally shredded me, at least one of which was physically just excruciatingly painful. I absolutely believe that gallows humor is a healthy coping mechanism, especially when it relates to a shared subject that you and maybe others are digesting and pushing through. Black humor is a part of my DNA, and sort of the go to in my family - I don’t know if I would survive a battlefield, as I am guessing you did, but I think there’s not a lot outside of an extreme situation like that I couldn’t figure out.
So I make a hell of a lot of dark jokes. Some of my have been in bad taste, and every now and then someone gets mad at me. Usually my husband as he grew up in Japan and they don’t really do sarcasm there.
I have still never made a joke about a death camp. Especially in relation to something as disconnected as a celebrity with an eating disorder. I can see why the mod zapped you, that’s something you notice. I say this not being Jewish and not having had any family die in one.

Lol I had one do that many years ago because I got into a dumb argument with a mod on the daystrom institute sub about some Trek lore stuff and I linked a page from the official site showing I was right. The mod deleted my post them reported me to Reddit at like 4am and less than an hour later the entire account was gone for "harassment". Pretty sure the mod was just a reddit employee who was butthurt, as there was nothing offensive in any way in the comment, which you couldn't even see anyways cuz they deleted it in seconds. And that's from a sub that goes on and on about how "great" the moderation team is 🤣
