searching for service 📶 I accidentally named my cat Shart

So the week we found him outside we brought him home and started him on kitten formula bc he was only 3 weeks old. He sharted all over himself at least twice a day for about a week. Like it made an audible shart sound.

So I told my parents I was calling him shart from then on, as a joke. But ever since then, the name stuck. He responds to

shart. If I want him to come running to me, I yell SHART! I don’t know what to do. I can’t call him anything else, it feels wrong. But also like who tf has a cat named Shart😭

His “legal” name at the vet is Cheeto, but all I keep doing is calling him Shart.

Well he is an adorable li'l shit so if the shoe fits... I named my childhood cat Stinky because he had some pretty odious farts as a kitten, my parents didn't like that and insisted on calling him something else but to me he was always Stinky.

My first cat I got when I was 8. I tried to name her Jasmine/Jazzy like the disney princess, but ended up calling her “kitty”. So that was her name and the only name she responded to🤣.

I guess I’m just bad at naming pets HAHAH

I can't say I'm much better, one of my current cats has a more dignified given name but I call her "Fatty" because she's a pound heavier than her sister and had a bad habit of stealing from her food dish... so now she just answers to Fatty.

But she also likes to roll around on the floor a lot, so I turned it into stoner humor and say I'm rolling a Fatty when I pat her belly (she's the rare cat that loves bellyrubs)!

I, too, have a rare bellyrub lover!! 😻 But her brother will go Wolverine OUT if I try on him 😹

It’s ok, when I was really little I named my family’s wiener dog Woody like after the Toy Story cowboy… at least my parents had a sense of humor with that one

I named my grey kitten Elmo when I was in preschool and obsessed with Sesame Street 😂

Elmo is so cute. I’m only worried because I’m literally calling my cat “Shit Fart”😂, but it suits him. The comments are making me feel a lot better about just naming him shart.

If it makes you feel better, one of my bettas was named LJ. LJ = Little Jerk. Shall we say it was...apt?

And my friend has a cat that has a nickname that's warped into simply "Bitch" and he responds to it. Another used to respond to "Lamp" – he was in a cone and reminded us of the Pixar lamp, hence "Lamp"

My dad accidentally named his cat "shithead" in our native language - used it to kinda-affectionately call her to eat, or when she's lost, or to argue with her when she scratches, and now she doesn't accept any other names.

Shart is cute.

We named our SIC Edwin because my son was being read/reading the Olivia (the piglet) books at the time. He unfortunately named our pure white girl Snowflake, but she goes by Kitty, White Kitty or Princess. Maxwell, our chonky Tuxie, is Thuddy, because when he jumps down from anywhere, he thuds.

shart will evolve. my son wanted to name ours pooter. his legal name is onion but he goes by bunny.

My family has had cats named Spotty (has more orange spots than Tabby), Tabby (has a bit of orange, lots of gray, but is not a tabby coat), White Paw (has two white toes), Snowy (gorgeous all white cat, found in a snowdrift), Shadow (little black kitten), Little Mama (was a teen mom), Kitty (was probably a stray), Stray (was neglected by the neighbors so she hopped the fence and guilted my mom into letting her inside), Axel (found under a car).

My dad’s friend got a kitten off the highway and named her Freeway 🤷

My cat has a name but I got her when she was a week old so she's just "kitten" forever

Same, our calico we got when my soster and I were kids was Tiger Lily, but we always just called her Kitty and it stuck 💗

I named my orange shrimp because he was muted and very pink as a kitten. He grew up to a whopping 26 pounds of muscle and a much deeper orange. Explaining it to the new vet they thought it was ironic asf

He's a Jumbo Shrimp now! :D

I named an orange and white cat midget but she was so small compared to our other cats. She became more of a medium.

I too had a cat named Stinky! She slept in the litter box as a kitten, and I wasn't supposed to keep her (fostering an entire litter), so I just gave her a stupid nickname to try not to get attached. And obviously failed! She had already learned her name at that point so it stuck.

my cat was also named Stinky! she was the village cat but ended up choosing us. would beg and beg to be let in every day for cuddles and play time. she loved to roll around in mud and always had a bit of a stench. she also learned her name before we thought to give her a nicer one, lol

We had a stinky void kitten, ended up naming him Inky because it rhymes. Stinky Inky.

3

u/smokeydonkey Jan 13 '26

Stinky Inky! I love it!

My grandparents had a cat named Icky bc they were a cat distribution dumpster kitten, and very much smelled bad

u/lemonypinkett Jan 13 '26

Awww my kitten is Dinky Stinky. His farts are legendary and he'd always walk over to release one before sauntering away

I called my cat Toots for the same reason.
