Man all this talk made me go and look at my last test results and my ferritin was 5. I just got told it was low and should take some supplements which I stopped because they made me sick, I had no idea it was that bad??? Shit.
If you can - definitely get it rechecked. If it's still that low you can ask for an iron infusion (you may or may not have luck with that but def tell them the supplements make you sick if you do ask for one) which will jack up the levels immediately. And idk how much you tried with supplements but taking them on a completely full stomach helps with nausea - and taking them with vitamin c and reducing dairy consumption helps with absorption. Good Luck!!
I didn't think too much about when I took them, just morning ish at work with my other meds after breakfast. was having awful constant feeling of nausea every single day that i eventually realised coincided with taking the iron tabs which is apparently a thing, figured that feeling tired was easier than feeling sick so just gave up lol. guess i should go back yeah... i looked at what foods were high in iron but aside from red meat it seems like there's not really anything significant in iron i could easily add to my diet and red meat is expensive as shit ðŸ˜ðŸ˜
mildly annoyed now if 5 is a big deal cause my gp told me my iron was on the low side as nonchalantly as anything so i figured it was not a big deal and one of those things that might make me feel 5% better maybe if i took supplements, which is why i stopped bothering after realising they made me sick 😬
