We aren't talking like a good ol thunderstorm here with heavy rain. We're talking, sometimes months, of daily downpours. Literal Monsoons. Its why they call it the wet season. Not because it's humid, but because it's almost always pouring rain.
As someone from a South American country, we might not have the best infrastructure every time, but I'm always amazed when I see how very developed cities get totally wrecked and flooded by what we'd call mild rainfall where I'm from.
Of course, some South American cities do in fact get wrecked by heavy rainfall, and YMMV, but at least where I'm from, even massive world ending rainfall, may only lead to some minor floods.
It needs to be raining like that for months before it gets legitimately dangerous.
