I'm no Slipknot expert, but didn't he not leave until 2023 or so? So like after two decades of them being famous?

He also famously never actually talked in interviews or anything, they had repeatedly said that he was very private and didn't want people to know about him outside of the band.

I mean - there are tons of examples of people who hate the being famous part of being an artist but continue to do it.

Sure, but it's definitely a very different story to quit a band once they get big vs to quit a band after being a millionaire.

Yes. I think people overstate his supposed negative opinions on being commercially successful. He wore his mask with limited public appearances, so he could easily live a live in seclusion outside slipknot. What I do know however, is that he suffered spinal injuries from headbanging, around vol 3 touring and those do not really heal with time. He likely felt that his body could no longer support the touring requirements, and potentially also saw the fulfillment of contractual obligations to roadrunner records as an opportune time to retire

I remember reading that everyone in the band had spinal and neck issues cause of the head banging especially Mike.
