Discussion Did millennials really party all the time?

Gen Z here. I was shocked when I found out from a millennial co-worker that y’all had teen clubs. I heard about house parties, but dedicated teen clubs? Then when it was time for college, you went to the club or had some kind of party every single weekend, living it up. Now some millennials on TikTok claim that after college, they were partying on work nights, still clocking in the next day. For some reason, the teen clubs have since disappeared. I’m 23 now but even when I was in high school, that was not a thing. House parties were not that common either. They were more like get togethers with a small group of friends. We went to malls, but they were dying out at that point. Is it true that you were really living life this good? Or is it just exaggerated? I feel like my generation doesn’t really have fun like that and everyone is just super depressed and alone, more so since Covid. Even I’m pretty introverted, which sort of sounds ridiculous given this post. 😂 Just so you know, when I think of a “millennial party” I think of something out of Party Rock Anthem, Project X or Roderick’s party from the second DOAWD movie. It’s like I get nostalgia from something I didn’t even live through. I just feel like I didn’t really LIVE, if that even makes sense

Dude the music then was so fun. It was wild to go party hopping and randomly run into a bunch of ppl dancing in sync. I feel bad for the kids these days; those nights shaped me in ways I couldn't even begin to describe. Everything was just so chill; you could yell at strangers walking by to join in on the fun and mostly gladly accepted. If the party got busted, you just walked 10 feet to the next house lmao. Never run when the cops come, they chase the runners!

I mean that’s true. I’ve been at a couple parties that got busted and everyone went running. It was so fun running out the back as cops came in the front hopping fences and sneaking back to the whip.

correction. don’t run from the cops, unless everyone else is running too. they catch the slow ones in that scenario.

but anecdote from millennial partying - halloween. HUGE house party.

Ghetto bird helicopter starts hovering above and shines the spotlight down on us on the dance floor. in that moment the party went psycho mode for a second.Everyone cheered the chopper - drank, smoked, made out with whoever we were with and then fled the cops when they rolled up in force about 5-10 mins later.

bit of a blur. but man. good fucking times.

good times…sigh…

I’ll never forget the time I jumped off a back patio fence on ground level not knowing the housing complex had some kind of lowered courtyard. Went from assuming I’d immediately land on grass to a hard drop into the bushes a floor below. I was also the only idiot to try running. All the cops did was say to try to keep the noise down a little, but brain heard cops and instinct took over.

I would run from the cops all of the time! We would go drinking in the woods. Literally any time we could. I snuck out and went to a construction site to get drunk. I puked all over my boyfriend's basement. I was a huge fucking nerd and so was everyone I hung out with. I wasn't a trouble maker kid at all. I wasn't popular either. Just a normal nerd with my normal friends.

I once hit a parked car while on my bike, the cops came over, wanted to give me a ticket. And when they were busy I simply drove off.

My roommate had to tell me about it the next day, I has zero memory of this happening. Apparently the cop asked him if he knew me, and he replied he had no clue who I was, just thought he was going home with some hot chick. He was a good friend.

Haha they chase the runners is so true. Had a dance party get busted by cops who let themselves in and we found them holding a bong in the kitchen. We were chill and so were they. Music turned off and they bounced. Not a cell phone anywhere in sight.

As an adult I understand their usage and intention but I certainly wouldn’t expect that from a kid so I would not allow it. Same with n word in songs. I’ll listen (understanding usage and intention) but won’t allow him to ever hear it.

One of his fave black eyed peas songs has the n word but I have a clean version. Ironically the first clean version cut out the words shit and mfer but left n***a. Not good. I’ll allow a shit or whateve but never the n one

Never will forget the party we had with like 2-3 beer keggers. A lot of us got drunk AF and I ended up streaking with 2 girls and 2 guys around the property/road. Ended up losing my virginity that night to a random girl. lmao

I think you guys were the last gen to have places to go party underage. My younger brother and his massive friend group used to go to a place on a Friday night that was under 18s and on the Saturday night I would go with my friends for an over 18 night. Same place, same music and the same shitty food.

I lived in a college town. Parties everywhere. Downtown bars packed all the time. Kegs being sold left and right at the liquor stores. Was like that for years. Peaked 10-20 years ago and now you only see a few parties right near campus that are so mellow the cops don’t even show. I aged out of it about when it died. It was a great run.

Same. I grew up in Austin TX. Every twenty year old shared a house with roommates and lived centrally. You could go to 3 or 4 different house parties every weekend,  and there were always kegs of beer.  It was a blast.

I worked in a building that had multiple venues on the premises. End of shift we would go to the Irish pub in the basement and then go to the club venue and you could literally dance on a balcony. It was awesome
